At 4 weeks you can put him on puppy gruel which is formula soaked in puppy feed I like Nutro natual puppy feeds depending on his size.

Make it very thin and watery at first so he can lap it up then over the next several weeks you gradually thicken it up until about 8 weeks you can feed slightly moist feed.
