Viveca, I've been thinking of you! That's wonderful news. Did the woman tell you what happened and how she lost her dog?

I agree that microchips are important -- imagine, if a pet ends up at a shelter (and a dog likely will) and the owner doesn't show up -- after 5 days the dog can be adopted out! I heard of a family that this happened to and the new adoptees refused to return their dog to them!

There was some controversy about the chips causing cancer at the site, but I beleive that the actuality of that is quite rare -- it's worth a small risk, in my opinion.
