Terrific Report from the Vet!Views: 202
May 02, 2008 1:46 am Terrific Report from the Vet!
Pamela Akkerman I am so excited after getting the test results from the holistic vet today. Some history about my Daisy....

Daisy was diagnosed with diabeties about 2 years ago. We fed her very expensive commercial dog food until this past July. Then I started to learn about homemade dog food and what is good for her and her condition. While on the commercial dog food, she had diarrhea off and on, plus she didn't feel good about once per month for 3 days.

I started cooking her meals along with ours and I noticed she stopped having diarrhea. She didn't gain weight, which was a concern after reading some articles. She seemed to have more energy but I wasn't sure what her blood sugar was doing. All of her blood tests were coming back ok but not great. I read about the whole food method and started to follow the instructions.

Yesterday, we went to a holistic vet. in order to have him look at my recipes and make sure I was using the whole food method with insulin, as I should be. He was very good and I learned a lot but I think he was concerned that I was using too much starch/carbs in her diet.

Today, he called me with the test results and he was very pleased. He told me not to change anything because she was doing fantastic and her blood sugar levels for the past 2 weeks were exactly where they are to be for optimized levels. I decided that I would removed most of the extra carbs in her diet and see what her test results will be in about 8 weeks.

I am working on developing the dog treats for my company, for low-fat, low carbs and using oat flour so that diabetic dogs can enjoy them.

Thanks for listening to my terrific news!
Pam
