Cathy,
I never heard of that in a dog either--how wonderful that her daughter is so astute.
I had a long goodbye with one of my Irish Setters. She was 15 (unheard of for a setter) when she died. She had been such a wonderful dog and I struggled to keep her alive as long as I could keep her pain free--or at least well managed.
When my Golden boy needed to be put to sleep at the age of 8 I was so unprepared--I had just started thinking "Oh, now they're going to start calling him a senior dog."
Goodbyes are never easy, whenever they happen.
