One of my greatest fears is fire, because of my animals. I know someone who lost their entire animal family to a fire a few years ago; they had some rescued cats in crates (too unsocialized at that point to be loose), and the fan they were using to keep air circulating in the "cat room" overheated and burned the house down. What's especially awful is that they had only been gone from the house for a few minutes to go drop something off at a neighbor's home when the fire started. But it was an older woodframe home...a few minutes was all it took.

After that, I'm very careful about what I leave plugged in when I'm not home.
