Hi Wendy - I had a similar problem when I moved to a new home - my dogs, who had always been so good at going outside decided to turn the house into a toilet. It was extremely frustrating. Anyway here are two things that worked like magic - first get yourself some Nok Out (no I am not in anyway affiliated with this company) http://www.kalever.com/ this stuff is the most amazing product I have ever used. I actually stumbled upon it when I was trying to get rid of the smell of smoke in my brother's carpets. Anyway, you can read about it on your own - but you won't be disappointed. Its totally nontoxic and....well amazing - it kills smoke and urine odor completely.
The other thing I did was a bit weird, but I was desperate. I went back to basics - I got pee-pee pads. You know the treated ones - I put them outside and bingo they both went right to them. It took about 2 days and the problem was fixed. No more sniffing around the yard and then coming in and peeing and sometimes even pooping!!
I also, put one of the pads on a tile floor right by the door that I used to take them out - just in case, it was used once in the middle of the night. But during the day they both would go to the pad and start sniffing and I would know immediately it was time for potty.
I am sorry you had such a horrible experience - fires are very traumatic. Hope all will be well soon!! Hugs Denise
