What eats up your timeViews: 132

KerryF What eats up my time??? Hmmm....I have to admit that I don't have a lot of time eaters on my plate. I spend the amount of time needed on each item on my to do list each day that is necessary to accomplish it adequately. Then I move on to the next item. etc.

I don't read junk emails. I may get side tracked while cleaning the house, but at the end of the day I will go around and finish all the half done things I started, so when I go to bed I actually acomplished quite a bit.

Here's something that my family does, faithfully, which really helps around the house. Each evening, after some tv time, but before bed time for the kids, we all go around the house collecting our own stuff, putting it away where it goes, loading the dish washer, etc. When we go to bed the house looks all tidy. This rarely takes us longer than 20 minutes.

Also, since my kids know they are expected to do this at the end of the day they actually put their things away more during the day, so they aren't working very hard at night. Hubby even has to go around and put away everything he used or took out. It really helps keep the house tidy all the time. And I sleep so much better knowing I don't have to get up and deal with the house.

I do spend a lot of time on the internet, but I feel that the time I spend there is needed. I tend to not spend unnecessary time on it.

I used to have friends who sucked up a lot of my time, but I learned to say "good-bye" when it was time to get on with my day.

My teenage son times himself. I'm not sure where he got this habit, but it really works. He'll time himself for homework, chores, music lessons, etc. Everything really. I think he started it years ago for fun...but now it's helped him streamline his day very well. I do this sometimes when my list is very very long and I really need to get through most of it.

Basically, I just do what I can every day, with the most important things getting done first. The rest rolls over to tomorrow. I don't stress over any of it. It really isn't worth the stress.
