Jorge Azurin
So you finally got short-listed for that job you’ve been hoping for. You’re ready to pack up the things on your desk and you’re looking forward to jumping the fence after bagging the job of your dreams. But before you start thinking of turning in your resignation letter, you’d better find a way to ace that job interview. Unfortunately, for a lot of job applicants, this is the area where they falter.

It’s a good thing the trusty job-hunter’s guide “What Color is Your Parachute?” by Richard N. Bolles states ten commandments for job interviews that should help anyone impress the boots off an interviewer. Although some of the tips such as being careful of your personal hygiene seems commonsensical, a lot of the commandments are gems which a lot of job applicants simply take for granted.

Bolles recommends going after small organizations or those with merely twenty to fifty employees when trying to land a job interview. He also strongly urges applicants to do their homework on the organization before even thinking of showing up for the interview. During the interview process, Bolles also advices that one keeps answers down to 20 seconds or at the most, two minutes. You should also not beg during a job interview. You should rather act like a resource person that they need.

One of the commandments for job interviews is something so simple to do and yet so few people do. You should never forget to send the job interviewer a thank you note. You’ve worked hard to make a good first impression. Why not go all the way and make a lasting impression while you are at it.

Remember, the corporation you are applying for doesn’t owe you a job. If you want to get employed, you need to work for it, especially if it is the job of your dreams. Opportunities don’t come all the time. Make the most of it when an invitation to an interview comes along.

Do you have any additional tips on having that excellent job interview?
