I thought that members of the group might be interested in a recent initiative by Austin Music Foundation described below. In the interests of full disclosure, I am a member of the AMF advisory board.
In the bog of bad news for our business that is, frankly, the worst I've seen in my 30+ years doing music in one form or another, I think the "incubator" is a very positive development and a fine example of the "periphery-to-center" or...dare I say it..."P2C"...theory I have been harping on to friends.

The Austin Music Foundation is very proud to announce the launching of the
Austin Music Incubator.
The new initiative, which is a year-long pilot program, will help selected artists build a sustainable music career by offering them mentoring, training,
and financial support to complete and market a full-length album. AMF will be able to put three artists through the Incubator in 2003 with up to $15,000 allocated for each artist. Given the tremendous amount of talent that exists
in our community, the AMF created the Incubator as a new and unique model to support local music.
AMF's Advisory Board will review applicants and select three finalists from each genre: 1)rock/pop, 2)urban/hip-hop, and 3)singer- songwriter/country. All of the finalists will perform at a showcase where ONE FINALIST FROM EACH GENRE will be chosen as the Austin Music Incubator artists/bands for 2003. Final selection will be announced during this year's SXSW Music Conference.
