First, Scott...like the new photo very much. It looks real and down to earth. The others here have described it well.
Not much more to say because it really hits the spot.

Dean, your photo...

I wouldn't pay heed to that item about crossed arms representing "closed" or "defensive".

Someone mentioned that about my own photo awhile ago in a discussion. In my opinion, I think this is one of those "acquired" ideas that are picked up somewhere but that in fact have no real foundation.

My comments about this:

There are some pretty famous, confident, successful people photographed on covers of magazines and articles with their arms folded and believe me, they have image consultants guiding them every step of the way.

Now, I just ask everyone to think about it. Wouldn't Dean look silly in that pose with his arms dangling by his side?
Or a hand on a hip or whatever. It looks very awkward for most people to stand with their arms doing nothing or in contrived positions. I supposed he could have both hands in his pockets. Folded arms are a natural, relaxed and comfortable position when one is standing or leaning. Personally, I see shades of a young Marlon Brando here (heh heh).

In my own photos, I feel confident when my arms are folded. I feel self conscious if they are doing nothing or doing something "cutesy" (the 'ol hand on the hip - I have one of those on my home page). So I vote for folded arms. And I think my Indian friend looks quite confident - I in fact was mimicking him.

What I don't like, Dean, about your photo, is so much wall. I think it's out of balance. Not that the photo should be centered - I like the lack of symmetry. I just think there is too much wall. If you delete between a third to a half of the empty wall, I believe you will find that YOU stand out much more and there is still enough empty wall to keep it artistic.

I LOVE black and white photos and will be showing some of my own shortly (some real surprises). One of my favorite photographers of all time is the legendary George Hurrell. If any of you have not had exposure to this extraordinary talent of the century, please go here. http://www.hurrellphotos.com/hurrell_home.asp?ID=2

You will even find some folded arms :-)
