Yes, it was quite a rush for me when everything came together. But, what surprised me is that not everyone shared my enthusiasm. The local county newspapers did not even mention that Fox News showed up...and I actually wrote the article for one local newspaper that said this was a possibility thanks in part to work done by local high school students. I would have written the follow-up piece, but I felt sure someone else would do it. Nevertheless, the adjacent county newspaper made Fox's presence front-page news in their paper. So, why is my county behaving in such a dysfunctional way? Or, is it me?

I can still remember when President Ronald Reagan came to Atlanta and spoke at what was then The Omni. People took off from work. There was a mad rush on MARTA to get to The Omni. Well, I often wonder if the Governator of California were to come to my small town if there would be a mad rush to hear what he had to say? Getting people to care seems to be the real challenge here. It's not just getting people to use the Internet, it is getting them to care about what other people do.

I did an experimental mailing a few months back to help promote a new chicken franchise in town. I sent out a laminated invitation to specific businesses. I told them to post that invitation in their place of business for the benefit of employees and patrons. I told them if they did not want to post the invitation to call me and I would personally come and pick it up as it was quite expensive to create and I did not want it to go to waste. Well, some folks actually called me up and told me to come and get the invitation. One person could not wait for me to come and pick it up. She put postage on the envelope and sent it back to me. Sometimes I get the feeling these folks are so inwardly focused it's frightening.
