I think there are 2 problems here. The first is as a culture we do not follow rules leave alone road rules. So any unattended sign remains that a sign meant to be glanced at and do what we do. The root of this problem needs to be solved at the School level and in a fundamental way. If kids are instructed to follow rules, comply with the larger good rather than do what is expedient like their parents do, it will bring about a sea change. Unfortunately we focus on physics and chemistry and math alone and such things even if taught are like a requirements tick mark. Until the first problem is solved we need loads of ruthless enforcement and monitoring. Speeding tickets, sobreity checks, fines for minor rules infraction and over and above the expectation that anyone who has a licence should know the rules(enakku teriyalae pa ippadi panna kudathu nnu). However the second problem is only a drop in the ocean, it is school level education and attitude setting that will save us from further accidents.Private Reply to Mohan G (new win) |
