Julia - Garland is a real pro at marketing and his ideas definately work!
I'd echo the advice to post articles online. I just re-launched my own business online last August - after 6 years of recovery from a near fatal illness and the loss of my previous online business.
Starting from nothing last August - I have been able to achieve some very exciting things. By posting my articles (about 12 different ones) on numerous (LOTS) of sites - I now have over 66,000+ links in Google when you type in my name! By posting articles - clients have hired me, the articles have been reprinted in newsletters, websites and in print publications. Plus, having so many links INTO my site it raises my Google ranking.
I can now say that I generate nearly 90% of my business online - some I look for with personalized emails to potential cients, but MOST come to me now. I got a call this morning from Canada AM (equivalent to Good Morning America) since I'm in Canada. A producer has asked me to work with her on a story - she found me online! I'm providing her with marketing strategies for a unique "slant" on a story she is producing.
So - write some interesting articles - even short "Top 10" type lists - and post them EVERYWHERE you think your ideal client "hangs out". For your business the articles could be about things like:
- how to choose the perfect gift for (moms, dads, parents, boys, girls, teens, etc.) - home and garden topics, etc.
So - Julia - keep going - you'll do this!!
