Normally the port is '21' for accessing an ftp server.
If you want to know what a port is and what it's used for, here's a brief explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_%28computing%29#Network_port
(very technical though).
Basically different services on the internet have different ports assigned to them. This is done so a server can distinguish between services, i.e. if you want to send a mail, it's port 25, but if you are accessing a website you will be using port 80.
