It is hard to get industry specific numbers unless you are actually running test campaigns.
My own cost per lead runs from free to just under $2 per lead. $2 is the maximum target I chose.
It is almost easier to run some campaigns and find out your cost per lead than to find useful data you can count on. Even if you find some results from somewhere else, they may not apply to your markets or geographic location.
If you are planning a Google Adwords campaign, I recommend The Definitive Guide to Google Adwords by Perry Marshall.
This is a very well written, step by step ebook that shows you how to advertise effectively through Google, while saving 100s or 100s of dollars. This is an e-book I refer to every week and it has paid for it's $47 cost many times over.

I would recommend you run 5 or 6 types test campaigns to start, including:
1. Free Traffic Bar (free campaign) - http://www.freetrafficbar.com
2. Google Adwords
3. Banner or text ads on a web site that reaches your target audience.
4. Banner or text ads on an e-newsletter that reaches your target audience.
5. A second tier pay per click search engine.
6. Google Adwords advertising on specific sites.
It is critical that you track your campaigns. I recommend you use tracking tools like:
