Beth Ferree Your Wisdom -Our Words
Hi, I'm new here and wanted to get my 25 cents (inflation you know) in on this subject. I agree that ads should not be allowed. I belong to a couple of networks I never visit because they have very little information of value on them. they are primarily ads for members' websites. While I have no problem with marketing obviously, I can find members who do what I need when I need that particular service without having to wade through the ads on a daily basis. I want information I can use to build my business. In reality, I'm less likely to hire someone if I've read their classified twenty times than I am if I've gotten to know them as a person through a group first. Beth > Eric Sohn wrote: >

I received a post yesterday that was a pitch for a member's services. I've already written back saying that I wasn't approving it, but I also wanted to let folks have their say.

My thought is that this network is not an appropriate place for people trolling for business through posts. I don't have a problem if you mention your services that address the topic being discussed, but something like - If you want bigger, better widgets, come see our web page - is inappropriate, IMHO. I'd rather people PM'ed folks with their pitches.

Now, I know that others require ADV in front of blatant ads - and it sure would boost our message count. On the other hand, while we want foot traffic, so that more people learn from what we discuss here, I think that having ads detracts, not adds, to the attractiveness of the network.

So, that's how I'm leaning - what do you think?
