Thanks, Eric, for the kind words and reference.
You know, we have our list of "top ten online networking tips", and there are entire books written on the topic of netiquette, but I've always wanted to be able to come up with just one or two simple, memorable guidelines, or perhaps "tests" for posting that would solve/prevent a multitude of common problems, and I think I've finally done it...
Golden Rule of Posting #1: Ask yourself, "What would happen if everybody did this?"
Golden Rule of Posting #2: Ask yourself, "Am I truly creating value for the other person and the community, or just for myself?"
Those two simple tests seem to solve a whole array of issues -- spamming, flame wars, off-topic conversations, etc. I also like them because they allow the community to grow according to the true wishes of the participants -- there's no "judgment", just the simple question, "What am I creating, and is that what I truly want to create?"
