Bill Rickard
If I could eliminate one activity from my business what would it be? Since my primary function in my business (which is a partnership) is technical support and customer service I would say that I would like to reduce the amount of time in I spend front of the computer responding to customer problems. I ususally don't mind what I do but being able to have a holiday where I don't have to respond to customer emails or to be able to go on vacation without worrying if tech support problems are being taken care of properly.

What would I like to do more? It is pretty much a conundrum since I am a gearhead at heart. Having my hands inside of a computer or digging deep into a few thousand lines of code just to make a simple change in how a program performs is what I live for. So I would prefer spending more time in front of the computer coding and programing for myself instead of customers (which I guess is for myself anyway).

What would it mean to my business if I made these changes? I would think that if the customers aren't getting supported then the business would go away. How can (actually "how do") I change that? Part of what I do is try to teach others how to do what I do. I figure If I can teach someone how to fix their problem it is much better than fixing the problem and sending them on their merry way. It builds stronger and longer lasting relationships and everyone comes away with more than they started with.

When you look at all the activities you perform in your business, if you could eliminate one of them (or radically reduce the amount of it), what would it be - and why? What would it mean to the rest of your business and your life?

So, how might you make these changes - what would you need to do? And, what's stopping you from doing it?

If you prefer, we can discuss these questions via PM - but I do prefer we all share.
