Eric I'm going to send you something regarding telephone issues such as this. Assuming you are talking about phone contact and not walking in. Which there are two ways. Don't forget though, personality, charm ... is always a plus. If all else fails wear a mini skirt and show up at lunch time when they're all leaving LOL... KIDDING! I swear! I'll forward that phone tactics thing have. Modify it to your liking. :) One thing to do? Is to get the Gatekeeper to "like" you. :) That never hurts. Pay attention to "them" etc., there is a way around all of these thing. Also the gatekeepers can get into trouble if your call is not wanted so... ya know. ====================================================== > Eric Sohn wrote: >

What's your favorite strategy for getting around a gatekeeper?

Let's assume you have a specific reason you're calling this person, and can therefore express that you can address a known issue with his or her firm. Also assume this is a first contact - perhaps you've met someone else in the firm.

And, the really interesting question: do you consider what you're doing a ploy? If so, how do you feel about having to use trickery? How do you think the contact - or the gatekeeper - feels about your using the strategy?

I'll give you an example, to get the ball rolling. I've heard it suggested you call when the gatekeeper is likely not there, say from 7:30-8:30 AM or from 5:30 PM on. In that case, I could live with the strategy, as I'm not being dishonest or unethical. And I don't think there's perceived chicanery - in fact, I may get respect for being out there outside of normal business hours.
