Hi Eric:
It seems a lot of the world beleives the idea of "you have to lose or I can't win." (I always wondered what zero-sum game means - thanks for explaining it.) And a lot of them seem to be very successful people financially.
I believe in win-win personally. I think it's more fun and fascinating to build a win for both people involved in a negotiation rather than a win-lose. You have to be more creative - but I think it can actually lead to more long term, supportive and nurturing (if I can use that word in business) relationships.
Win-lose is a belief in lack and poverty thinking. I feel really sorry for people who operate that way in the world because the truth is if that's what they believe then they're constantly looking out for someone to jump out of the bushes and stab them in the back.
Satchel Paige was quoted as saying, "Always be looking over your shoulder - something might be gaining on you." Of course he was a baseball player in the ol' "Negro Leagues" of the 40s and 50s. That was a quote my former husband used to say and live by all the time. He was a pretty successful guy career-wise but lived in a world of hurt emotionally.
One of my favorite quotes is also by Satchel Paige and I say it often. It's, "Dream BIG - small dreams ain't got no suction!"
All the best,
