I've had a look at Ajax. It's not a single technology but a number of web technologies that change the way web pages work. It incorporates Javascript or PHP, the Document Object Model, XHTML, XML and various other bits and pieces. Ajax allows components of a web page to be updated independently of each other either by requests to the server or by server 'push'. Services that are created using Alax include Google Mail and Google Docs, Google Maps, Basecamp and many others.
So in theory you can create all sorts of applications with Ajax, but by itself it doesn't do anything to work with telecommunications equipment. It's about the web API.
However, I saw a great product the other day that works with IPTV telephones to make simple business applications available. It has a drag-and-drop component interface that allows anyone to create an application by dragging into place the bits that define the application workflow and then select the databases etc that it connects to. It needs the top-of-the-range Cisco phones.
