Yes, Pyrogens are harmful if they enter the blood stream - typically during glucose or saline adminsitration or injection.
Human beings are sunjected to microbes and toxic susbstances on a daily basis. Our body's natural defenses restrict the bacteria and the toxins, etc. to areas where they can be tolerated, the skin and in the stomach and alimentary tract.
Whereas in the injection or glucose or saline administration a pyrogen bypasses the normal body defenses. I have not come across any case of Pyrogen affecting if consumed, maybe some doctors can highlight this issue and if they have come across any such case.
Regarding the micron size of the Ultrafiltration membrane a UF membrane rated at 10000 MWCO ( Molecular weight cut-off) can remove Pyrogens - this cut off generally relates to a micron size of 0.01 Microns
