Jun 18, 2003 4:17 pm re: Neck massage versus Carpal Tunnel Surgery
DonEDotter Cherilyn; You are absolutely right about this one, in fact a very good friend and author Julia Lacey wrote about this a number of years ago in her book "How to Survive your Computer Workstation" beginning in Chapter 1. The nerve endings which lead to the hand/wrist originate in the section of the neck or C-7 and C-8 root nerve home. The use of massage loosens the muscles around the disks allow for more blood flow and circulation. This carrys away any waste products-lactic acid if you will and helps reduce the inflammation.

One of my instructors had a seminar in which we followed the story of a pregnant woman who suffered from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Surgery was an option for her, but she decided against it. Anyhow, with frequent massaging of her neck, back and arms (right down to the fingertips), she noticed her symptoms were less aggravating to her and eventually her pain seemed to have gone away. Massage may be the answer to those who practice alternative medicine.
