Various activities happening locally in the Middletown area are getting news media exposure. The local weekly newspaper, The Middletown Times Star and the county-wide daily newspaper, The Lakeport Record Bee have both carried articles about such activities as the upcoming MABA Business Mixer at the Greenview Restaurant on May 17th and Internet training scheduled to take place at the Hidden Valley Community Church on May 26th. Just this morning, the online publication, Lake County News published articles on both activities. Here are the direct links - Middletown Area Abuzz Preparing For "Middletown Days" and Lake County Church To Make Folks Internet Savvy.

Keep in mind this is just one person attempting to make an impact on a small town. Imagine the impact members of a Ryze network made up of members around the world could have? That is what this network is seeking to achieve. Yes, you can be a unique and special blessing to the folks who live here. You can reach out and touch them via The Internet.

I will be asking for your help in involving yourself in a very special letter-writing campaign that reaches out to California's Governor, Arnold Schwartzenegger, his wife, Maria Shriver, George Lucas, Steve Jobs, John Stossel of ABC News and several others.

Things are really beginning to come together. Bob Littell of NetWeaving, who lives in Atlanta, GA plans to be a virtual guest via Skype at the upcoming business mixer on May 17th. I just got off the phone with the president of the local Mac Users Group. He may be supplying the Apple Wi-Fi laptop needed to make the connection via Skype. If any of you out there would like to participate on this call between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time, please let me know. The more virtual guests our mixer has the better.

Lamar,

I believe that you are already setting up a radio spot for me, for the promotion of Middletown Days Parade weekend, yes?

Just give me a little lead time to ensure that I am available for this.

I will be booking our space at the Expo for the weekend, and hopefully we will be able to promote Project Middletown, together.

Things are starting to come together and I am looking forward to being there.

As we discussed, I am happy that I chose to stay outside of Middletown, so that I am able to get full appreciation of the surrounding area - the scenery, the lake, the country air and the farm land..... all things that I don't have here in the city!

Have you considered advertising on Craigslist?

Sounds like fun Althea.

How are you setting up the booth?
What will you have for displays, etc?

What is your focus?

Reg,

I have not had time to consider the set up yet but I am going to share the booth with Lamar in order to promote Middletown business on Ryze. I think since we are both very active Ryze members, it makes sense to be together.

I will be promoting Real Estate but I will not represent myself as a Lake County agent - rather I would like to show Middletown how they can build they Real Estate investment portfolios outside of Lake County. Basically, there are tons of low cost properties available in the SoCal area, that fetch good rentals. It makes sense for people to invest in properties that not only pay for themselves, but also net a profit in that the appreciation percentage for this year, in this area is about 11%. Not bad as investments go.

If you can beg, borrow, or rent a 32" (or bigger), LCD TV with a computer input, it would make a super display.
Plug it in as a 2nd monitor on a laptop and you could display anything you want to a good sized audience.

I do have a large display, Reg... the thing is that I will be driving over 400 miles to Sacramento to visit my grandchildren first (and you KNOW how much stuff I always take for the kids), then on to Santa Clara to visit with my youngest son (more stuff to schlep), so space will be at a premium!

I have made too many trips, north, looking like the Clampett family (ladder sticking out the back, dog house strapped to the top of the truck 'bed' and every passenger holding a pet!)

Once... just once, I'd like to look like a normal person on the I5!

Reg,

I am in total agreement regarding the LCD TV. Just two months ago I was introduced to a flat-screen LCD HDTV by a company named Vizio. It's a small company based in the San Francisco area. But, the HDTV's they make are outstanding - especially for the price. You can find them at stores like Sam's and Costco. If I could afford to rent one, I would indeed want to have it at the festival. However, that could prove to be somewhat unwise as the festival area is next door to the rodeo. The rodeo kicks up a lot of dust. Not good for computer-type equipment. Nevertheless, if dust does not prove to be a problem, being able to showcase things using a large LCD HDTV screen hooked up to a laptop computer would indeed be awesome. Those Vizio TV's work great with computers. If the AirWireless Internet Service beams a broadband signal into the park again this year, high speed Internet access will be easy and free. This really opens up a whole new world of opportunities - multimedia presentations, web surfing, Internet phone calls, etc.

Althea,

Are there any Costo or Sams where you live? If there are, visit one and take a look at the Vizio LCD HDTV. They are amazing. I have done trade shows in Atlanta. While laptops are great from intimate one-on-one encounters, the big-screen TV works wonders at attracting an audience. If there is any way I can get one of those wonderful TV's I am going to make the effort. One thing is for sure. You will be able to connect your laptop to that big screen without any problem. And, if I am able to do that, I am pretty sure of something else. You will be the ONLY booth not only with a laptop computer, but a big screen TV. But, will I be able to pull that off? At this point, I have no idea.

One thing you might also want to keep in mind, I have a lot of your vinyl tote bags left over from last year. Those tote bags actually include more than just the material you initially sent with them. They also include advertising specialty items from MABA members, Scott Allen and Donna Fisher fliers.

Reg,

Here is what I am talking about. Take a look at this 47" LCD HDTV and give me your thoughts - Vizio Product. Imagine having something like that showcasing a business in ANY trade-show type venue. I think that would attract a person's attention. However, I would gladly settle for the smallest model Vizio would allow me to rent for a reasonable price.

Get the picture here. Folks come to the festival to see people making snow cones, painting faces, little children running through inflated playhouses and there all of a sudden they see a beautiful HDTV and a tall intelligent blonde talking about real estate opportunities outside Lake County and a free business network called "Project-Middletown." Her voice sounds a bit foreign yet familiar. Yes, you've heard it before. You heard it on KXBX Radio. Well, would you be interested in walking over to that particular booth and learning more? I think you would. Why? Because it offers beauty, knowledge, class and style. In short, that booth is appealing.

Althea,
It is all play acting when you do these shows.

Whatever you can do to attract attention, do it.

Consider hiring a limo to bring you to the fair and have the driver help set up the booth.
Create a "buzz".

Long story, but we (three of us), used to hire a limo to go to a club I found in a small town close to where I just moved.

Just act like it is a normal occurance and watch what happens.

Reg,

That is such a clever idea. However, you do not do that the day the festival opens, right? You don't wait to set up your tent following the driving of the limo into the festival area on the day the parade opens. That might not even be possible from a logistical standpoint. But, to drive in and park the vehicle for a short time and have Althea stepping out of the limo to walk over to her booth sounds intriguing. I could have my photographer friend, Craig Eve, available to shoot some pictures for the local paper. When you talk about "buzz" you are talking about a design. This is not something you leave to chance. You pre-plan it and design it to work a particular way.

Reg,

I agree with your assessment. Got any other clever ideas?

As for being an Internet guru, I am far from that. I might, however, qualify as a somewhat determined and perhaps stubborn individual. Oftentimes, I just don't feel comfortable giving up on people - even when I feel they have given up on me. Sometimes it is actually the approach that is the problem. Put another way, not everyone laughs at your jokes when they know you are trying to be funny. Is it because they don't like the joke or don't like you? Well, sometimes choosing a different joke solves the problem. Other times, the joke is not the problem. You need to find a different audience. Under my current circumstances, finding a different audience is not a luxury I have.
