There are two campaigns going on, one by TOI - The lead India campaign, to strive for a cleaner and more responsible administration, and one by Zee TV, exposing the Goonda elements from all parties that are seeking elections this time.

Will CNK take cognigence of these and try and vote for a clean and upright candidate in their respective constituencies? Will CNK members try to motivate others to do the same?

Hope we all make our individual efforts, may be not this time, but one day we will be able to succeed in rooting out this vote bank politics and corruption in high places. Shall we make a start?

Another Utopian dream for you to sniff at GR. Do you ever try to vote?

My very honest & an unbiased question to all of CNK (Probably politically naive one too) -

sf has taken pains to list a few Democratic parties & their representatives... who seek office through our mandate for voting them into representative power!

Irrespective of who ultimately gets to form the government; the leaders of all the parties manage to get elected (Incumbency or Anti-incumbency) most of the times.

Now my question is - We as people, have never managed to be decisive in a collective manner - in rooting out non-performing leaders of a representative party! Why!?

(The point is - the party would have lost badly, but the leader of the party would be in the House of Representation - voted into power!!)

How is this possible!?!?

Demography apart - Are we succumbing to servile tendencies or is there somethings the eye doesn't see???

Cheers!

My urge for all CNK members. Please do vote. First lets vote and fulfill our democratic duty.

We shall vote the better. Definitely we wont get a best candidate for our Parliament. But lets choose a better than the worst.

Before voting we shall look for an alliance which can
Give a better governance

To combat inflation
To eradicate terrorism from our soil
To nurture harmony
To give better employment
To uplift our economy
To take India in the right direction especially the super power in next 5 years
To fight against corruption
To reign a better social life of people in our country.

Why the EC is not taking the step to have a provision to help me to reserve my vote for none.

To vote as Abstaining from voting.

There are some nice snippet's from the film world - There was a movie which aptly points out that, if you vote for 'None of the above' - then 'Presidents' rule should be imposed if such case is the majority. Very valid point, I would say - Can we make that a ruling!?

Surely EC reforms are the first to be done.

I dont feel like voting for any of the candidates. But inorder to prevent someone misusing my vote in went and voted in the last two elections.

EC reforms

1. Minimum educational qualification should be set for MLAs and MPs.
2. Retirement age should be there for politicians.
3. Medical fitness certificates should be there.
4. First time elected should not be made as minsters.
5. Attendance should be made mandatory in Parliament and legislative assemblies.
6. Properties and its value should be publicly announced.
8. Retired Govt officials shouldnt be allowed to contest in elections.

And anyone can add to this list.......

HI ,

Its really nice to be here. Election Fever and its going to be too hot. All I request you is dont be fooled by media. You know very well that almost 75% of tamilnadu is fooled by print and television media in the last state election. Use your common sense, the only thing that we can able to do right now.

Cheeers,

Hi Senthil,

First time Iam reading you here.

You have said some real facts.

Buts its not only in the last election and even before the media came into fore people of TamilNadu and also of India are being fooled by the too smart and shrewd politicians. Now with Institutionalisation and politicisation of the media to the maximum we cant expect real facts and ground realities from this specific segment anymore. They stand to loose their claim of 'the other pillar of democracy'. Stand corrected that even the judiciary is no more the pillar of democracy.

Its nice to find some flow in my language but my thought when I think whom to vote and what should be my measuring factors .....

Oh my dead democracy and hypnotised society...........

Iam confused but not my fellow citizens. They are ready to cast their votes in favour of who.....................?????????

Very nice points to be seen. I dream that it comes true. Wow what a thought you have. I appreciate you.

Few things to add perhaps few not related with elections.

Judiciary, Law, Police, Election commission should not interfere with each other.

Age factor is really important in election and should be mandatory. Even a small accusations on criminal proceedings a candidate should not be allowed to contest. Because today he may be a small robber tomorrow he is the all time thief and becomes corrupted.

Roads laid should possess a warranty of minimum 5 years by the builder(one who lays the road). Should be signed atleast by 10-20 general public with ration card numbers to ensure the validity. If majority of the signed members feel that the roads are not safe or not properly laid, criminal actions shall be taken by the project executive who is responsible for the road. This may be look odd but we can practise this method for a better amenities. This same can be followed by all other constructions done by the government tender.

Even if the electrol promise is not fulfilled by the elected candidate within 2 years, he should be dismissed by the election commission along with judiciary. This can be termed as foregery by the respective MLA,MP or Minister or CM or central minister or PM. So that people cannot be cheated by the false promises and none can easily utter easy committments to the voters.

to be continued

Mr.Murali,

Yes, the last one. The provision to enable the recall of the elected representatives at any given point of time before his/her tenure of 5 years is over.

This recalling should be lot of factors:
1. As you said non fulfillment of the election promises, the election promises should be printed and submitted to the EC by each candidate and it has to be released for each constituency by every participant in local newspaper.

The action can be taken by the EC on its own or on the complaint filed by any person to the EC or the court from that constituency like a PIL in the court.

Like attendance to the Parliament and to the Legislative assemblies, attendance should be maintained in every Panchayat of the constituency. The elected MLA/MP must have visited every Panchayat for specifc number of times in every month failing which his MLA/MP designation should be disqualified automatically. If this person can visit every home atleast 2/3 times during election campaign cant the same person visit atleast 2/3 times per month each Panchayat after election.

The elected MLA/MP should not hold any other post or position in any other Institution/Organisation/Company. Even he holds his own business, he should disown it in all means before he can take oath as MLA/MP. When this is rule for a Govt employee that he should resign his post to contest in any form of election, does that rule should not be applicable for Private employments and Ownerships also.

Yes the statistics as revealed by the media yesterday was staggering.

Elections is like another festival where the actual citizens, I mean the people who work with their hands gain a lot from this. People like street artists, painting artists, .......gain some money. But even here too middleman comes into the scene to make hay out of this....

What I would urge people to do is go forward and vote, do not abstain. Vote for the best (in terms of personal integrety and purpose) person and not the party. If enough people vote this way, this election may spring some surprises for the parties who have been ruling and making a fool of the people of the country.

Most importantly this reform must be incorporated

For assembly constituency a person should contest in election should not go beyond his district. For example JJ should not go and contest in Andipatti. MK cannot contest in Kulithalai. Both of them can contest in any of Chennai's district constituency.

In Parliament election, the person should only contest from his state loksabha constituency not in other state

Thats good democratic.

Well the greatest joke of today's newspaper is from Subramaniaswamy. He wanted people to elect AIADMK ally in this election.

So that a tamil will become a PM after the election. The comedy is does he mean JJ will be the PM or he himself wanted to become PM.

Lets see what happens

If there is a hung verdict (seems likely), the leaders of parties with around 15-25 seats aspire to be the PM.

In such scanario, who all you think are likely contenders?

A few in my opinion:

Sharad Pawar
Lalu
Chandrababu Naidu
Somebody from communist parties
Jayalalitha

Any other guesses?

The third front launched and the million dollar question is who will win the race for PM.

For congress it seems Manmohan Singh once again will be selected.

And in BJP campaign the news is that Advani will be the PM candidate.

But my only ambition is those who won the contest should be given central minister. Not for those who lost the election should not be given. The democracy now sustained severely here. Because people said No to that candidate but the politicians select him/her as a minister is absolutely ridiculous. For example Shivraj patil who was defeated in last election was given very powerful home minister post. It is shame to democracy and constitution should be rewritten so that only MP who came by winning elections and not even Rajya Sabha MP(elected by MLAs of each state) given minister posts.

the most hilarious part of congress manifesto is giving rice @ 3 per kg. Sonia Gandhi and Congress working committee claim that this is an innovative scheme, forgetting MK has already announced and giving Rs. 2 per KG since 2006 in TN.

A strong people and a weak government cannot go together.
what we need is a strong leader to lead an effective government keeping Counter-Terrorism policy as a top priority. Manmohan has miserably failed in that.

Srilankan Tamils Issue: It was best exploited by almost all political parties in TN.... Now PMK Ramadoss, MDMK Vaiko, VCK Thiruma are all concerned about their share of MP constituency only!

ONLY after arriving in India I was able to catch the public mood on this subject. Now I wonder whether I was little bit carried away by the news items widely published in the internet by pro-Tiger elements over the past few months. Anyway, my heart beats for the suffering innocent citizens of SL.

Mohanji & Basabji (especially), please do not think i am doing an U-Turn on this issue... now this SL Tamil issue is a non-issue not only in TN political circle, but also among the student community, professionals, lawyers, and people from all walks of life.

Btw. what issue would then DOMINATE this election?

A few comments here. As a true lover of democracy i do not want us to go the pakistan way. Even their civilian government is not one where anyone in the electorate can stand(A college degree is needed). I am totally opposed to putting any restriction(except for a convicted criminal in jail because that person cannot represent us in parliment as he or she is in jail) for a candidate to contest.
If you think educated politicians are not riff raff, do remember that most of our current parlimentarians have degrees, speak good english and beyond that care about their lives and their pockets. On the other hand by your criteria, Kamaraj could never become an MP or MLA and he was IMHO a great CM.
We are letting the people choose, so let that happen. I have seen how the Indian electorate rejected Indira Gandhi in 1977 so i know the people of this country do know how to choose wisely even under duress. Lets not second guess them.
