How do you use your business cards?Views: 406

How do you use your business cards?

Do you carry some with you everywhere you go?

Do you offer one to everyone you meet (or converse with at the bus stop or the shops) or is it more polite to first ask the other person if they have a card for you hoping that as they give it to you, they will ask for one of yours?

Do you offer to write your personal email or private phone number on the card as you give it to the person hoping that they will not want to lose it because it contains information that they will not find on your website etc. and therefore keep the card?

Do you leave a card on the restaurant table when you leave?

Do you leave a card in returned library books (as though you had used it as a bookmark)?

Do you drop your card in the bowl at the hairdresser etc. for the monthly prize draw?

Do you use single-sided or double-sided cards?

Do you write the date, time, and place of meeting on the back of cards that are handed to you?

What other innovative ways do you use your business cards?

I definitely do this

I also make it a habit to ask for the card of the other person. I tend to give my card when asked for it only after that.

I am guilty of hanging onto my cards like they were gold. I'm not real quick to whip out my business card. Far to many bad experiences on then getting a sales call - Yes, I have flipped the conversation to my being the one to meet their needs.

It is rare when I give a card out that a meeting is set at that time.

I have on several occasions been caught with my pants down and not had a biz card on me. Shame on ME! Now I'm scribbling my number down for a contact, hopeful they will remember who I am and why they have my phone number on a napkin *LOL*

Do I ask for contacts business cards? Sometimes - I am an odd bird, I enjoy the cat and mouse play of nurturing a potential business relationship.

A few weeks ago I met the incoming county Democratic party chair for the organization. No contact info exchanged while we spoke and found like interests business wise. This past Tuesday I tracked her down and contacted, we are having lunch next week to discuss some Image marketing changes. For me personally I think prospects like that I will go the extra mile to find them.

Rodney,

I ALWAYS have some business cards with me. I bought a cheap case from Staples to hold them. It keeps them looking good, and is only one thing to slip into my pocket whenever I go out.

I DON'T give one to everyone I meet, or litter a restaurant with them, or anything like that. Since I ride my product (a scooter) all the time when the weather's nice I frequently have people approach me in the parking lot with questions, which I gladly answer, but I ONLY hand them a card if they ask "Where can I get one?"

I find this approach is a good compromise between being a friendly stranger and a pushy salesman.

I DON'T place my business card in a drawing unless I'm sincerely interested in what they're offering. I know that the purpose of such drawings is for THEM to build up their mailing lists, and not much more. Whenever I run a contest like that I hire someone to enter all the paper entries into a database, and then toss the paper. The drawing is done from the database.

The lifetime of a business card placed in a drawing is very brief.

Single sided vs. double sided? I've always used single sided so that notes can be made on the rear, but I'm toying with double sided cards as being more distinctive advertising pieces and easier to find in a stack.

I hope this gives you some ideas!

I always hand out my card. So what if they thrown it away. The cost per card is less than 3 cents for 4/4 UV coating cards.

Thanks for this interesting topic, Rodney.

... andThanks folks!   For for sharing your ideas for using cards in your marketing strategies.  Some great ideas here.

I have several sets of cards for different target audiences.

My biggest revenue producer was a conventional size, gold hot stamped with the single word "CASH" , printed vertically in huge gold letters with a printed 1-800 number to a one minute, recorded overview.

I'd attend the children's ball games and when either side scored;   Would join the other parents in yelling and toss a couple of handfuls of cards into the air.     This trick that I learned from Joe Girard (GM's top salesman, worldwide, for many years). ... Worked extremely well.

More conventionally .... My cards are generally oversized and of high impact, Goldenrod colour.   I want 'em instantly visible when needed and not buried in a Rolodex. ..... Often they would be bigger than postcard size and printed both sides.

When walking into offices 20 years later; I discover these high impact cards pinned on a chalk board or quickly found in their desk drawer.   ( ... and that was the intention).

Bestest.

The best use I've found for business cards is to fold them into quarters and use them to fill the gap under the short leg of the table in the local pub.

Hey that's brilliant - I never thought of using a business card for that - and I'm often looking for something for that exact purpose! Perfect!

hehe Now instructions for that might be good to print on the back!
