India was warned one month before the Mumbai attack

Bangalore: Adding more fuel to the ongoing blame-game, which has led to several head rolls in the government, the U.S. intelligence agencies have reportedly issued a warning to India twice about a possible maritime attack. The warning to the government was given atleast a month before terrorists' actual attack.

Infact, in the warnings the agencies also listed specific locations prone for the attack including Taj Hotel. "U.S. intelligence indicated that a group might enter the country by water and launch an attack on Mumbai," CNN quoted a U.S. counter-terrorism official, who refused to be identified due to the ongoing investigation into the attacks and the sensitivity of the information.

Moreover, even the Indian security forces confirmed that there were prior warnings and the areas augured to be attacked were on tight security for a week but gradually the effect melted. Moreover, the Indian intelligence officials were reportedly quoted as saying that they had traced satellite phone calls to a number in Pakistan, which is supposed to used by a leader of the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. As reported by ABCnews.com, this intercept also revealed about a maritime attack on India, which enabled the American NSA to monitor the calls terrorists made by Thuraya mobile communications system satellite phones and finally warn the country.

Infact, even the coast guards were informed. "Yes, the coast guard and navy did have intelligence inputs that an L-e-T boat was to land in the creeks off the northwest Gujarat coast," a top coast guard official said, referring to the western state which borders Pakistan. Even the leader of Maharashtra's leading fishermen's union says he had also tipped off the government some four months ago about militants using sea routes to land RDX explosives in Mumbai with help from the city's underworld. "No one acted upon our information," said Damodar Tandel, the President of Maharashtra fishermen's committee
