What is the point of advertising something in Ryze Classifieds and yet people cannot get to your Ryze Page to check you out and read about your offer because your page is private?

In fact, what is the use of a private page here in Ryze - aren't we here to find people and be found?

Hello Rodney

I've taken this issue up with Ryze Admin on more than one occasion. There are a few people who might want to be members and maintain a private page, someone in the public eye for instance.

But the basic reason is that people who are building a new page might want to keep their page private until they have finished building it. Then of course they forget that it's classified as "private" because it's visible to them.

You get similar problems with guest books. "Please leave a message in my guestbook!" the page says, but there is no guestbook. (Friends only or turned off.)

My argument with Ryze is this. Every new member should be offered a choice of 3 mentors (volunteers from existing members). The chosen mentor should help the newbie get established, offering some assistance over say 4 weeks. All the basics: edit your page, open your guestbook, make your page public, join at least 10 networks, read a lot, look for people you already know, find some friends, Now you know a lot more - re-edit your Ryze Page. Finally make a post to a network.

ONLY THEN, should Ryze publish the names of "New Members". When the rest of us get that list of new members it shouldn't give you access to lots of pages with essentially nothing on them anyway. If there was one thing I'd like to see Ryze change this would be it. 60% of the people who join Ryze never really get started here.

I agree John.

Getting newbies started is the hard part. Many want a
slick page but have no idea how to go about that. Then
there are people here who sell this service to newbies.
Outside of the ryze admin.

I don't have a problem with that per se, but it seems odd
that someone would pay $200.00 to have another person set
up their ryze page when they are a free member and don't
participate much. I assume most of the paid pages are gold
or platinum members.

There is no use in "private" if anyone is trying to be
active in a social setting. Those who remain private and
join groups, who are reading and extracting information
only could find the same info other places on the web.
Why here?

Because it is a more or less "natural" occurence. Just as in real life, any club has an active core, a broad range of attendees, and any amount of inactive members.
It is part of human nature or simply "just because".

I would not worry about that too much, but rather focus on people who ARE here and participate. Life has many distractions, and sometimes we have good intentions of being a member of a group but then we must cater to more pressing immediate issues.

Let it flow.

The same people who are "silent" members here may be the very active ones somewhere else, yet they want to belong. That should be fine and not bother anybody. Perhaps they too will have something to say once in a while, but just aren't as chatty. It's all part of the search.

Vive la difference!
