Are you planning something special for 2009 that could positively impact your business? If so, please share it on this thread.
I have a few things in the hopper which I would like to share with you. As most of you know, I live in Lake County, CA. This is a rural area of Northern California, often referred to as "California's Quiet Wine Country." We are not all that tech savvy here. But, I hope to make some inroads to improve that situation. In 2008, I was able to introduce the area to its first FREE Wi-Fi hot spot with splash page advertising. This coming year, I hope to expand the number of Wi-Fi hot spots with splash page advertising and add Wi-Fi digital photo frames to that Wi-Fi mix in high traffic areas like restaurants, coffee shops and book stores.
A cost-effective high definition UPnP media server is now out on the market. This is great news for the professional speaking circuit and those locations that cater to them. Combine FREE Wi-Fi with a media server hooked up to a large HDTV and you have the ability to host virtual guests as featured speakers from around the world via such services as Skype and Yugma.
Next, in July the world may start ridding itself of electric cords. Why? Because witricity will be available. It will be possible to operate electrical appliances simply by placing them on a table or on the wall. What makes the transfer of electricity happen? Magnetic induction. What is called a "power mat," sends a signal to the electrical device from beneath a table or behind a wall. It's amazing!
I predict people will soon start coming into Wip-Fi restaurant hot spots not just to eat food and check email, but to recharge their cell phones and laptops while they eat.
Finally, it looks to me like Google is gearing up to change the way the world uses cell phones with its open source operating system, Android. I am hoping to persuade Google to conduct a special conference for its Open Handset Alliance at the new Twin Pines Casino Hotel in Middletown, CA in October. My hope is that this conference can be scheduled to coincide with the Oktoberfest in nearby Hidden Valley Lake on the third Saturday of October.
What are you planning for 2009? Keep in mind if you need a little help making what you envision work, this is the place to ask for advice.
