Umesh Kulkarni | | The very fact that this post has been here for 11 days, only 78 hits before this comment and only 6 responses to Vaijayantis post, speaks silently on the readers interest in Maayboli books. THis is to exclude those who might have read although missed out on posting here.
On a personal front I am a big zero on Marathi books. Although I was a dedicated reader in my college days and used to read atleast couple of books (Marathi and English both) in a week. During vacation, I remember many a times i found the rule of 1 book a day quite obstructive, so I used to actually sit in the Library and read books there itself. At the end of the day I used to take home a new book! Many thanks to the Librarian there who tweaked the rule book for me and gave special permission to me to read a book there.
One of the book that I fondly remember having read atleast 10 to 12 times is 'Machi varla Budha' - a wonderful book to read!
Last few years have been a bad patch for me on books front although!

Nilesh Joshi | | Hello all,
In a separate post earlier, I had commented on "Narmade Harrr" by Jagannath Kunte. Another interesting book is "Naticharami" by Meghana Pethe.
I also request all to please write the name of the book as well as the auther so that it will be easier to find them out from the libraries.
Happy Reading, NileshPrivate Reply to Nilesh Joshi |

Satish Karekar | | Hello Read lot of Marathi literature in school days, shifted to English-fiction in college. The shift to English fiction ( though not deliberate )was for extreme subject variety and styles. Then to non fiction. Many might have followed similar path.
Recently I stumbled on some enchanting books - pleasant discovery of what I missed in Marathi.
' Narmade Har..Har', ' Samadhi Mast' ' Nitya Niranjan' ... all by Shri Jagannath Kunte
' Saad Deti Himashikhare ' ...by Shri G.L.Pradhan .
These are extraordinary books.. narratives of personal quest of authors!
I want to read Authors now, to start with Maruti Chitampalli & GA Kulkarni.

Savita Govilkar | | I read lot of marathi book till I was in 9th grade. Suddenly I swiched there after to English. However Marathi books I will never forget are Kounteya, Mrutunjaya, about Karna , Raja Shiv Chhatrapati, Zunja, Zep, Swami,Sharthine Rajya Rakhila . Later I also read few contrversial books like Mala Uddhwasta Vhayachay by Namdeo Dhasal's wife. PULA Off course. Chi Vi Joshi is my all times favorite too. When I was in 7th, 8th I liked Ramesh Mantri a lot.(Kolhapuri Chivda was my favorite)Mi kasa zalo by Atre. Though I started reading mainly English after 9th Grade I kept on reading Marathi books selectively thereafter. I read Mukund Taksale and G A Kulkarni and Gauri Deshpande. When I was in 6th 7th grade I read many adventure stories translated from English like Count of Monte Cristo, Chandravar Swari, Suryavar Swari, Robinson Mandali(mostly translated by Bha ra Bhagawat and originally written by Jule Verne, Alexander Dumas etc). Recently I wanted to read Lazza by Taslima Nasreen however I was advised to read its Hindi translation(from original Bengali). Private Reply to Savita Govilkar |

Maddy | | मराठी पुस्तकांवरुन आठवले...in my school days, I used to freak out on Gurunath Naik, Sharadchandra Walimbe... त्यांचा तो character "Dara". Lol. Again, some more I remember are Baba Kadam, Suhas Shirvalkar(त्यांचं "दुनियादारी" हे कॉलेजलाईफ़ मधलं माझं आवडतं पुस्तक). And Shrikant Sinkar crime thrillers.
यांच्याव्यतिरिक्त पुलं, वपु होतेच! अगदी लहान वयातले खास मित्र - वेताळ, मॅंड्रेक, चांदोबा, वगैरे मंडळी...If I make a list of my best friends, Amar Chitra Katha and DIAMOND Comics will be in the top ten list! :)
सध्या आळीपाळीने अब्दुल कलामांचं "अग्नीपंख" आणि मत्करींचं "फ़ाशी बखळ" चाललंय.

Do read Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda Paramhansa. Its in english but is fundamental to spiritual initiation n progress. I hope, you have read all the 4 books of Jagannath Kunte: Narmade Harr Harr, Nitya Niranjan, Sadhana Masta and Kalindi. There is one more interesting book on Narmada Pradakshina by Ka. Na. Telavare. You may also read "Sangnya Palikadachi gosht" biography of Shri Bidkar Maharaj

I started reading'Maximum City'. But am not really picking up the speed. Being Mumbaikar we have know or understand most of teh content I suppose. The same thing happend with me for Monk who sold his ferari. I found it very boring and stopped reading after 50 pages or so.The other books read and found interesting are 'We are like that Only ' by Rama Bijapurkar and 'Elephant Tiger and Cellphone by Shashi Thiroor. I would say that more than "mere coincidence", the fact is that the activity on the AM network has really gone down in the last 3/4 months. Remember seeing "Saare Kase Shaant Ahe" post for long. Probably, everybody is busy tiding over the tough times or with the preparations for festivities at home. Not to worry. This sunday, ganapati bappa will usher in fortunes & joy to all of us.

 Nilesh Joshi | | Hi,
Finished reading "The Winner Stands Alone" by Paulo Coelho. Had picked it up due to all the hype associated with him, this book and had read his "Alchemist".
I was expecting detailing of psychoanalysis of Winners, the lonesome phase they go thru, the travails of jealousy and backbiting and how to handle this psychological phase. I must say that I am totally disappointed by this book. Its neither a thriller nor detective, forget, psychoanalytical. Its verbose and wastes pages on irrelevance. Its a crappy book and total let down for an auther of his caliber. Better avoided.
Have now started "Beyond the Secret" by Brenda Barnaby. Private Reply to Nilesh Joshi |

 Satish Karekar | | @ Deepak,
You may also like ' Kalindi', from Shri Jagannath Kunte.
It is a fictional work - a novel loosely based on author's life and family. Here the style is fresh and unbridled , with liberal flights of imagination.
I also had a meeting with Shri Kunte, he is a remarkable person... (but as they say I found "the book was better than the movie!")
