A FORWARDED MESSAGE

Small Steps and the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) wing of People First Consultants cordially invite you to join Uma Prajapati, co-founder of Small Steps on Sunday, 29th March 2009 in Chennai, for a unique presentation of the Small Steps campaign.

Greetings from Small Steps and People First Consultants.

We are pleased to introduce you to the Small Steps initiative to promote a more environmentally and socially just world. Launched by Uma Prajapati of the Upasana Design Studio, Small Steps is a program designed to reduce India’s plastic waste by providing an alternative to throw-away plastic bags. By creating a portable, convenient, reusable cloth bag, Small Step is spreading the message to “just say no to plastic.”

This Sunday, 29th March 2009 between 10.00 am to 12.00 am and between 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm at Conference Hall, 1st Floor, New No 21, Old No 11, 1st Main Road, Indra Nagar, Adyar, Chennai-600020, Small Steps co-founder, Uma Prajapati, will be speaking about her vision of an environmentally and socially just world. Known internationally for her socially responsible design initiatives, such as Tsunamika and the Varanasi Weavers, this presentation will be an extraordinary way to promote Chennai’s new “I Love Chennai” concept. By educating those in Chennai about the ease and effectiveness of replacing plastic with a reusable bag, this presentation has the potential to make an extraordinary impact.

It is estimated that India alone generates 5600 tons of plastic waste everyday, much of which isn’t recycled and rarely makes it to a waste management area. It is estimated that one reusable bag can replace hundreds of plastic bags over the course of its lifetime, holding an extraordinary potential to eliminate India’s waste. Small Steps bags are also produced domestically by rural women through microfinance programs. By linking the project with microfinance, each woman is able to buy her own sewing machine and continually support herself and her family. This year, Small Steps is planning to expand this training and production to 200 more village women as well.

We highly encourage you to attend this presentation and greatly appreciate your support and of the Small Steps project.

Don't fret SS, sushiji has nothing to do, I just made this appointment for her and I know she will honour my commitment unless there is some emergency. That, my dear watson, is friendship.

Cheers!
