This 60s Hit Song Spoke to Me in My Dream…

I recently had one of those wonderful twilight zone – but real - experiences where profound information came to me while I slept. From the depths of my subconscious – or from Universal Mind, if you will – came just a few lyrics in my dream.

Those lyrics stayed with me when I awoke and I knew in my heart of hearts that there was a message there and I had to find the song – and grasp that message.

Receiving answers and guidance in our dreams is not uncommon. We can even suggest to our subconscious prior to sleep that we will receive an answer or solution or be guided through information in our dream state. It has often been suggested that we keep a pad and pen next to our bed to jot down any information we receive so that we don’t forget it upon awaking.

But I had done none of this. I had not focused on receiving guidance in my dreams for probably years since I am used to receiving intuitive promptings when awake. I had no particular request for an answer from my subconscious that night. I had no pad and pen handy. I do usually repeat words or an affirmation prior to sleep as I teach my students to do, but I was not asking for my subconscious to answer me in the sleep state.

This amazing experience was completely unexpected and when I researched the lyrics and found the song, I knew beyond any doubt, that the message I received was from that place of guidance that is so strongly cherished.

I just love when our guidance comes through to us in an unusually creative way – in this case, it was in the form of a Grammy winning song from 40 years ago…and it brought a profound message, not just for me but for all…

THE LYRICS IN MY DREAM…

The lyrics that were “playing” in my head as I slept were…

“Ride a painted pony, let the spinning wheel spin…”

I brushed my teeth then ran to the computer and googled the lyrics. It only took a second for the song to appear and for me to recognize “Spinning Wheel” by Blood, Sweat & Tears. I remembered the song, but although the music of songs would sink in, I had never paid much attention to lyrics in those days (1969) - so I really didn’t know or recall what the song was about.

THE COMPLETE SONG LYRICS…

When I read the lyrics, I knew exactly why I had received this message and what Infinite Intelligence was telling me. I had to find the audio of the song and hear it. I found both audio and video, and listening to the band only confirmed that there was genius in this creation – a true representation of Universal laws and prosperity principles.

First, let’s read the lyrics. Then I will elaborate on the message…

Spinning Wheel

Blood, Sweat & Tears

What goes up must come down.
Spinning wheel got to go 'round.
Talkin' 'bout your troubles, it's a cryin' sin.
Ride a painted pony; let the spinning wheel spin.

You got no money and you got no home.
Spinning wheel all alone.
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you... you never learn.
Ride a painted pony; let the spinning wheel turn.

Did you find a directing sign
on the straight and narrow highway?
Would you mind a reflecting sign?
Just let it shine within your mind,
and show you the colors that are real.

Someone is waiting just for you.
Spinning wheel, spinning true.
Drop all your troubles by the riverside.
Catch a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride.

Someone's waiting just for you.
Spinning wheel spinning true.
Drop all your troubles by the riverside.
Ride a painted pony; let the spinning wheel fly.

THE MESSAGE…THE MEANING…

What goes up must come down. Spinning wheel got to go 'round.

Since this is the theme of the entire song…I’m going to leave the message of this for last.

Talkin' 'bout your troubles, it's a cryin' sin

You know that the foundation of my teachings is based on the power of the words we use.  And the more we give attention to and speak about what we don’t want, the more we will perpetuate the very condition that we don’t want.  The more we talk about our troubles, the easier it is for the subconscious mind to accept them as fact and produce more of the same.

But…do you know the real meaning of “sin?”

Of course, we all know the common religious interpretation. But let’s look at the word’s root meaning.  In the biblical Hebrew, the generic word for sin is het. It means to “err,” to “miss the mark.” It does not mean to do evil.

The Greek word hamartia is usually translated as sin in the New Testament. In Classical Greek, it means "to miss the mark" or "to miss the target" which was also used in Old English archery.

Are you beginning to see the genius in this song? But we are only just beginning…

You got no money and you got no home.
Spinning wheel all alone.
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you... you never learn.

Interesting that I should be given this message at this time. What is happening in the current economic climate? Many are without needed funds and we know that many families have lost their homes. There is no doubt that a large segment of our population feels very much alone in their situations and at the mercy of an unloving Universe. And would I be incorrect in stating that many, if not most of them, are focused on their deprivation and losses and speak about it continuously?

And if you keep talking about your troubles, you never learn, do you?

Did you find a directing sign
on the straight and narrow highway?
Would you mind a reflecting sign?
Just let it shine within your mind,
and show you the colors that are real.

I wanted to do mental and emotional somersaults when I read these lines. Amazing words…amazing wisdom.  I had just gone through a bit of a mental and emotional tailspin just prior to that fabulous book publishing deal I was offered. You see, the “little me” hidden in my subconscious was competing for my attention and trying to tell me that I wasn’t up to being a published author, that I wasn’t up to the responsibility to share my work in such a big way and to be in the company of such notable authors – you know, all that blah, blah, blah that wants to tackle us and put us in our “place” (our past “little” state of mind) when we are about to have a  really major breakthough.

The directing signs that keep us on the straight and narrow are all around us if we open ourselves to see them. We can find a reflecting sign and let it shine within our mind to show us the colors that are real. Our outer world reflects our inner world. Our innermost thoughts and feelings will mirror themselves in our outer world. They create our reality – our colors that are real. Our minds create our "real."

These lyrics were pure genius to me.

What goes up must come down.
Spinning wheel got to go 'round.

Drop all your troubles by the riverside.
Catch a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride.

Someone's waiting just for you.

… let the spinning wheel fly.

You can drop all your troubles and catch a ride on the spinning wheel. Someone’s waiting just for you. What is this spinning wheel that is the underlying theme of the song?

To me, it stated very clearly that there will always be the up and down cycles in life. Everything that goes up must come down and vice versa. The stock market reaches a high and falls. The economy has a meltdown and then rises. We have emotional and health situations and we heal.  Love goes away and we love again.

But if we learn to ride on the carousel of life and not focus on our troubles, not talk about our troubles, not rant and rail against the down cycles – if we let our minds show us the colors that are real -  then our situations will heal much more quickly, and when we get really good at this, the extreme cycles may not even appear anymore.

As we ride the waves of our destiny with as much faith as we can muster and with as much peace as we can feel,  someone will always appear for us – to help us with the solution, the money, the shelter, the idea, the healing, the inspiration, the knowledge - or the breakthrough.

Our directing signs are there.

THE SONGWRITER AND HIS MEANING…

"Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat & Tears won several Grammy nominations and the album won a Grammy Award in 1969. The song was written by band member and vocalist David Clayton-Thomas.

After intuiting my own interpretation of the song, I searched the Internet to see if I could find out what the songwriter really meant when he wrote it and if my thoughts were attuned to his.  I found this:

Clayton-Thomas was quoted as describing the song as being "written in an age when psychedelic imagery was all over lyrics...it was my way of saying, 'Don't get too caught up, because everything comes full circle.’”

Aha! :-)

Thanks for your intuitive rendition of "Spinning Wheel". You've helped me to remember how easy living can be when we ride the spinning wheel. I have now remembered. Blessings.

I'm heartened that you found my interpretation valuable. I wasn't quite sure how the post would be received.

I just felt that Universal Mind, through this song, truly "spoke" to me and I wanted to share.
