If you go to Lake County News, you will have arrived at an article about a church's upcoming harvest party. The article is posted to a website that was created using a program many of you are no doubt familiar with called Joomla.

You are supposed to be able to freely subscribe to this site and comment on any article that is written - just like you can at most blogs. You should also be able to edit any article you actually wrote and submitted to the newspaper for posting. But, guess what? I am logged into the site right now and can do neither. My first thought was that the newspaper had decided to change its policy regarding news. But, I just received an email stating nothing had changed and that the problem would be looked into. Meanwhile, if any Ryzer out there visits this site and spots the problem, please let me know. I will gladly pass your information along to the newspaper's tech support. Whatever the problem is here, it needs to get fixed, pronto!

Same answer as last time. They should at a minimum upgrade to 1.0.15. If they need it, have them email me. Joomla 1.0.X is past the end of life.

The best answer is to go with 1.5.x as it is the most secure and fixxes alot of problems. Or they can wait until 1.6.x comes out and will have ACL for groups. In either case I will be happy to give them a quote. Or tehy can check out a local Joomla Day.
BTW you can only edit your articles if they are using a component that supports it.

Scott,

The Joomla tech guy sent me an email stating the problem was operator error. But, I do not see how that can be. All I did was successfully log in. There was no way to post a comment. Normally, when a subscriber logs on, there is white text box that opens beneath an article post for a comment. Well, that text box was nowhere to be found the last time I went to look for it.

Try using FireFox, but they still need to update regardless.

That would cause a "You are not authorized to view this page" message.

Guys,

I found out what is going on with the newspaper site. If you visit Lake County News, you will notice there are different sections for articles. All the feature articles allow for subscriber feedback. However, articles in the "Community News" section do not. How come? Answer: SPAM. For some strange reason, some subscribers will SPAM the Community News articles, but not the feature articles. Don't ask me why that happens. I have no clue. It is simply what I have been told by the newspaper. Consequently, the newspaper decided to disable the comment feature on the Community News article section. Apparently, this is one of the ways the newspaper has to decided to deal with the SPAM problem.
