Kurt Schweitzer | | Here's something that so impressed me I already went out and copied it:
A free prize contest. One item is given away every day (or every weekday) between now and Christmas. My prizes retail between $10 and $130.
All someone needs to do to enter is copy a particular post from my Facebook or Twitter page onto theirs. (In the Facebook case they will need to post a confirmation back on my page.)
Every night you select a winner from the people who posted that day, and a prize from that week's list of prizes.
The full details of my Holiday Giveaway can be found at http://urbanvillagescooters.com/holiday-giveaway/
What do you think? Is this something that could work for your business?Private Reply to Kurt Schweitzer |

Bobbi Jo Woods | | Love the Santa on the scooter!
I think this is a great idea, and I have seen it done successfully on Facebook, Twitter, and blogs.
The only thing I would recommend is that you allow comments on your contest's page (if you can) to ask folks to post a link to their Facebook post or Twitter status, as proof of their entry.
Here's an example of what I mean, at Alice.com (who conducts contests like this regularly, and successfully):

Reg Charie | | A couple of things.
First, while you offer global sales, prizes are limited to locals.
"The winner can pick up their prize at the shop any time after their name has been announced."
I would also get your location in the header and in the title and heading. Lead into the article with Rochester Holiday Giveaway

Scott Wolpow | | Kurt, when did you start selling globes? Isn't that a bit out of your market? Wouldn't Snowmobiles be closer?Private Reply to Scott Wolpow |

Lamar Morgan 954-603-7901 | | I went to the link provided by Bobbi Jo. Isn't this amazing, Alice.com comes to the forefront with "goodie bags."
Here's the news - "To kick things off with a bang, we’ll be celebrating the launch of our gift bags with some really great free product samples and fun prizes this month. Prizes could include iPod shuffles, iPod Touches, Flip video cameras, free movie rentals, gas cards, free travel, Alice swag and more! So make sure you start checking your Alice.com box for goodies. (Please note: not every box will include a goodie bag and prizes are limited.)"
Good luck with your contest, Kurt. I really would pursue some free publicity for your contest with all the Examiner.com writers there in Rochester. You should be able to create some serious "buzz" for your prize give-aways. Remember the most powerful marketing tool available to you or anyone else is that "third-party referral." If the Examiner.com can deliver writers to you. I believe those writers can deliver third-party referrals.

Kurt Schweitzer | | And we're off!
I kicked off my contest last night at midnight, then went to bed. Less than eight hours later I'm back online checking, and I already have several people entered. Yes! It seems to be working!
Only on Facebook, however.
It will be interesting to see how this goes long term. I expect participation to build through the month as more and more people find out about it, and then decline as people get tired of it.
It will also be interesting to see WHEN people post their entries. That will tell me something about what times of day my customers are most active on social networks.
This should be fun!Private Reply to Kurt Schweitzer |
