A Little Help Please .... Website ReviewViews: 592

I'd appreciate it if as many members as possible would take a look at this website ....

http://DS3-Bandwidth.com

..... and provide back comments here on any glitches you may find.

I'm most interested in such things as:

- links that don't work
- upload time
- written content errors (spelling, grammer)
- graphics show up correctly
- page alignment with your computer screen
- similar technical issues

You don't have to worry that this is a veiled attempt to sell anything. It's not. This site wouldn't interest anyone here. It's a special service no one here is involved in.

I'm going bug eyed going through this site again myself (repeated times to catch all the bugs). I need fresh eyes to look it over and "see what they see".

Thanks ya'll!

God Bless,

First impression: At first glance I didn't think there was any text on the front page, then I realized that I needed to scroll down to see any content. Not a good design in my opinion.

A closer look reveals that you're using some software that rotates text and links through the front page. Why?

By the way, I checked the links at the top of the pages, and they all seem to work.

I have a good idea what you are working with.

Links aren't working on the website directory, rest seems to be functional. Curious on the pros and cons on the link exchange directory.

On the front page in Firefox the td section is about 13-14 px higher than the rest of the box.

Rest looks fine.

Kurt - the rotating text etc. is a method to auto-refresh content. SE spiders like it. When the site refreshes the spiders revisit. Results in a positive impact on PR and SE listings.

Heidi - website directory? On the link directory ... I have issues with that. Working with the service it's linked to to get it cleaned up. I want niche targeted listing (Telecom & IT related). The other "stuff" needs to go.

Thanks for the feedback folks ... very helpful. Please keep them coming.

Lemm,
You could not be more wrong.
It is clear SPAM, and you will be penalized for it.

No Wolpow .... you're wrong. It is NOT clear spam in any way.

There are rotating banners in the top right and rotating articles at the bottom. That's it. No redirect to another site as your link states and you erroneously tried to imply.

Plus ... I am not now nor have I ever been "penalized for it".

Heidi,

I'm having a coding issue with the programming on the link directory page. Still working on it but it's driving me batty. Plus trying to clean up the other concerns I have there.

Thanks for the input .... collaborates my own opinion. I thought I was nuts but nice to know someone else sees what I see.

There is no meta refresh, just the rotating banner which is an animated .gif which is called from teh supplier's site with an affiliate link. (And not a "no_follow" in sight..
This is valueless for SEO. There is no information transmitted as the alt tag is blank.

You could be a few steps ahead by putting in a small bulleted list instead of the rotating graphic.

The "DS3 Bandwidth, Ethernet Lines, Bonded ........" section is mis-located in relation to its left border.

Your SEO would benefit by using Fahrner Image Replacement for your company logo. You could H1 the short tail "communications" and immediately segway into your business divisions as h2.

Why do we have 2 left handed people using a pen in the main photo. This is a digital world.. Lose the pens.

I also spent extra time trying to figure out where the extra arm comes from, instead of reading your message.

The main page is much too long.
You would want to divide this up into separate pages and headline the salient points in a linked list.

h2 the headings.

That about does it.

They are right handed people. Note which side of the binder they're writing on - the image was clearly flipped.

Thanks Reg ... just what I'm looking for.

BTW, the rotating top right corner has banners AND text. Not just banners ... and only 2 of them at that.

The text content article (bottom) also rotates. I guess that would be less noticable to the naked eye but spiders see it.

- "You could be a few steps ahead by putting in a small bulleted list instead of the rotating graphic."

Hmmm .... I have some short text in the rotation. I'll have to think about the bulleted list. Hadn't considered that.

- "The "DS3 Bandwidth, Ethernet Lines, Bonded ........" section is mis-located in relation to its left border."

Working on it. Tends to mess up something else whenever I play with it. Not sure why. Still trying.

- "Your SEO would benefit by using Fahrner Image Replacement for your company logo. You could H1 the short tail "communications" and immediately segway into your business divisions as h2."

I'm working on some logos right now.....but I'm not very good at it. Plus some friends are designing some for me too. Haven't decided what I'll go with yet ... they're not ready anyway.

- "Why do we have 2 left handed people using a pen in the main photo. This is a digital world.. Lose the pens."

Not sure what to do with this. I kind of like it. I thought about making this a rotating image.

- "also spent extra time trying to figure out where the extra arm comes from, instead of reading your message."

???? Sorry I'm not getting this one. What'd I miss?

- "The main page is much too long.

I actually like the article style .... SEs have tended to also. Plus it addresses the target audience with exactly what they're looking for ... and gets them to take action. I'll consider it though. Still young and future "housekeeping" might go that direction.

- "h2 the headings."

Got it. Planned for a future update.

Thanks again Reg. That was more than I expected but exactly what I hoped for.

Hi Michael

Sorry, I missed this post, would've replied sooner.

Anyway, the page looks OK to me, except where the top of the page has a text description, it seems to run right into the side of the design.

Here is a screen shot that I captured looking at your site in IE.
http://screencast.com/t/MWRmOWVk

Also, on the middle table where you have your sign up form, the corners on the top left and bottom left are off-kilter, somehow.

As for the length of the page, I think it's OK, because you obviously are aiming to illustrate the terms and inclusions of the service, but it could be better.

I would recommend perhaps breaking up the content visually, whether with headings and subheadings above certain paragraphs, or by using a jump menu of some kind - anchored links that jump to each section, with a link back to the top, under each respective section.

Hope that helps. Good luck with the page.

PS - I noticed this after I already posted my feedback:

In IE 8, when viewing the drop-down box in the sign-up form, each field to select is too long for the box to display.
