3 week old blog with 400 Google subcribersViews: 562
Feb 24, 2010 5:35 pm3 week old blog with 400 Google subcribers#

Heidi Caswell
My programming son decided one evening to create his own blog code and blog for fun. He did such that same night. He is not an SEO expert, expert programmer yes who saw a niche to fill. He opened it up to others to add relevant articles and he uses the best ones.

3 weeks later his blog http://howtonode.org/ (which is geek to me) has 400 google subscribers, hit the front page of 2 technical PR 7 websites, along with many other referrals. He is guessing from looking at google analytics he has about 1000 reading his blog. He has already received a request for an interview from a reader that would like to hire him. It has reinforced his position as an expert in that niche. He'll know later this week if he is speaking a the OKC Ruby convention.

Content is still king.
Although I don't understand all he is talking about, I recognize that he filled in a gap in his niche, and got the word out to others in his niche. The rest took care of itself. No google ads, etc, yet I can easily see how this blog pays for itself. This same principle would apply to any niche blog, even those not written in geek.
