You don't have to live in Lake County, CA to want to learn how to make productive use of Social Media. But, the county does have a Meetup Group whose sole function is to teach folks how to benefit from Social Media with regard to their small business. Perhaps you are someone who needs to learn how to better use Social Media? Or, perhaps you are someone with Social Media expertise that is looking for an opportunity to share your knowledge with a large group of people in REAL TIME? If either situation is the case, I cordially invite you to join the Lake County Social Media Group. There is no fee incurred to join this group - unless you live within reasonable driving distance of Middletown, CA and wish to attend a workshop.

Out of sheer curiosity, I've joined this Meetup group.

Perhaps my website expertise will be helpful, and I can learn something.

Bobbi,

These Meetups are really good. You have the opportunity to learn something new and also share your knowledge for the benefit of someone else. The way I see it, it is win/win. But, I just visited the site and could not find you listed there. Normally, when someone joins this group they get welcomed by either Mark Rudiger, myself or both of us. The Meetup has a few Ryzers, but not many. It has some out-of-state folks (which now includes me). So, please do not let the fact you are not a Lake County, CA resident deter you from building a bond which this group. I plan to have folks from around the world sharing their insight regarding Social Media. I think you will really enjoy being on the site. Here's the link again - just in case you need it - Lake County Social Media Group.

Thanks Lamar

I did join through that page the day I posted this, and I swear I alrady had a Meetup.com account, but that was like 7 years ago, back when there were about a handful of groups using the service. Anyway after joining the stupid thing didn't redirect me to your group, so I had to manually join it tonight :P

PS - I think I've said this before...I prefer to be called "Bobbi Jo", not "Bobbi". "Jo" is not my middle name :)

Bobbi Jo,

I goofed. Sorry. I meant to say "Bobbi Jo."

Listen, I think it is absolutely awesome you joined the group. I am not the boss any longer. I no longer live in California. I am now in Florida. But, the new boss, Mark Rudiger, is a great guy. I have no doubt he will be open to have you as a featured guest at some point. What Mark does is set up a Skype video conference using a 7-foot screen with a LCD projector and a PA system in an auditorium. People bring their laptops to the workshop and get a "hands-on" educational experience in the use of Social Media tools like Facebook, Twitter, Aardvark and Squidoo. They will actually be able to ask you questions in regard to your instructions to them in REAL TIME. This kind of long-distance learning makes perfect sense.

What I am eager for them to do is get into Foursquare and social location gaming. Which reminds me, if you have a cell phone that is an iPhone, Blackberry, Android or Palm, chances are you can freely download the Foursquare app. If you have yet to use your cell phone to "check in" at a restaurant, I encourage you to do just that.

Thanks, Lamar. I look forward to seeing what we can do as a group with LCSM.

As for Skype, I do not/will not use it. But I'm sure Mark's probably got ideas to get the webinar set up in a way that will stll work with his projection system and in-house attendees.

As for Foursquare, I saw your original ravings about this way back when and I did check it out but at the time there were about half a dozen users in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area so I blew it off. I do not have a smart phone or web-enabled phone. With my limited finances, I had to stop paying for my AT&T service (with which I used an LG VU, the closest you could get to an iPhone at the time), and started using a prepaid service, for which my phone is for simply texting and calling.

One of these days, I shall be upgrading to a smart phone again, probably with Boost Mobile or T-Mobile unlimited prepaid. I simply cannot afford the expensive traditional wireless plans.

I'm starting to see more activity with Foursquare, especially through a few of my Facebook connections.

Hey Folks.

I've been a memeber of meet-up for many moons and have been
involved with a group in Colo. Springs (where I had some
clients, at the time) but not involved on a local level as
there were never any local meetups. PLUS, I don't run out
to this kind of thing as it's too expensive to get anyone
to sit with Russ.

At any rate, I'm with BJ on this. IF I CALL IN to be a
part of the meetup, GREAT! But Skype I also don't do.

If it can be done on a speaker phone though, I'm IN!

I joined the Middletown group today and hope to participate.

Eileen :D

Chuck,

This Meetup charges a $15 fee to attend it's workshops. Does that answer your question? Or, are you looking to charge a fee just for people to join the Meetup site? I suppose both are possible.
