Is Social Location Gaming Making Burglary Easier?Views: 651

I was first informed by a friend and then actually read for myself online that Twitter, Google Buzz and Foursquare encourage burglary. When people annouce online that they are away from home, they set themselves up for a burglary.

Is this really something we should be concerned about? Or, is this really overblown extremism at work?

Overblown. If I announce that I work at a bank, people will know the hours that I'm probably not at home. This is regardless of the medium.

Subscribing to a newspaper is more likely to encourage burglary than a Facebook account. That pile of newspapers in your front yard when you go on vacation has a proven history of attracting burglars.
