This English teacher has phrased it the best I've seen yet.

This should make everyone think, be you Democrat, Republican or Independent

From a California school teacher - - -
"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:

I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels

Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten.

I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids.

I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing
funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America..

I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students, here in the country less then 3 months, who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas"(whores) and throwing things, that the teachers were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, free day care etc., etc, etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?

To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.

Americans, We need to wake up.

It does, however, have everything to do with culture: It involves an American third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about “political correctness" that we don't have the will to do anything about it.

If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know.

CHEAP LABOR? Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?

Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.

Consumers don't want expensive produce.

Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs.

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. There is no such thing as "cheap labor."

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.

He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.

He qualifies for food stamps.

He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.

His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.

He requires bilingual teachers and books.

He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

If they are, or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI. If qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (OUR) taxpayer's expense.

He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.

Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.

He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.

Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6..00/hour left after paying their bills AND his.

Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT!
THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE ADDRESSING TO THE CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS OF EITHER PARTY. 'AND WHEN THEY LIE TO US AND DON'T DO AS THEY SAY, WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM .

Please pass this on to others. Immigration legislation is to be considered in 2010. This is important to working Americans, our economy and our American culture and heritage..

Blessings,
M.

Hi,
Interesting thread.
This is not just the USA, but Great Britain also.
They come not speaking the language, get a free local authority house, paid for by social security, Free Healthcare and if they tell S security they need a car to find work, they can then get the cost of a car. which is often illegally on the road, no tax, Mot or insurance,
Often when stopped by police they give a false name address or pretend not to talk English, If taken further they cry racist and the innocent police officer is suspended for further investigation. This makes the authorities quite UN- eager to do anything.
Don't get me wrong, If we take these people in, they should be prepared to give back to the community what ever skills they have to offer. We should not give all a free ride, when many of us pay their way with our hard earned taxes.

BK)..There are two major points in this issue that should get the attention of us all.

1. "Illegal"...what's not to dislike.

2. Cheap and/or free...these two words/offerings never bring good results, and especially if the government of our country or any other are at the helm.

When one law is broken and allowed to go unpunished or unaddressed it weakens the glue that binds all other laws/guidlines. This is a common thread that runs through every issue that is imperative in holding our society together.

Thanks for a most worthwhile topic and I will be happy to pass it on.

What ever happened to "Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses longing to be free..."?

It died because of people taking advantage of it.

It worked when the incoming emigrants had a strong work and family ethic.
Without the self policing it doesn't.

I fully agree with you. There should be laws against illegal immigrants. In India too, where there is too much of overpopulation, we have illegal Bangladeshi migrants apart from other foreign migrants, who are not accounted for thanks to our country's lax laws and corruption.

These illegal immigrants, unless they contribute to the welfare of society, are bad news and a drain on our economy.

Why should people in their home countries be deprived of jobs and other benefits because of these illegal aliens?

Mumbai (Bombay)is bursting at the seams with the influx of people from other states in India who have made Mumbai their home, since they feel Mumbai is a paradise for job seekers. What they should do is increase their own states' resources instead of coming to Mumbai and crowding us out. If our Government and our people are still apathetic to the current state of affairs, then Mumbai which is in a very pathetic situation, already, will have little or no resources as most of our resources are being used to cater to the needs of migrants from other states. We certainly do not want to go the way of the lemmings.

I think the majority of the problem is People are too frightened to say anything, because of the fear of being called racist. It is not racism, it is about the ability to contribute to the community required skills that we lack in other areas. I have great respect for those who wish to better themselves and raise standards for family life, but I and many others begrudge paying for the Free-for-alls no matter what country they are from including our own.
I have never claimed a benefit and even when I was wheelchair bound I still worked my socks off, I am always in pain and cannot get out of bed without pain killers and I always will be. I however will always work whilst I am able. Should the day come, where I cannot work because of my disabilities at least I will have the pride that I have always contributed to the system that I may have future use for.
(sorry this subject just bit my bum!)
I'll keep quiet now

Mike Fesler BizHarmony
Excerpt: from Dick Morris:

Published on TheHill.com on May 4, 2010
Source: http://thehill.com/opinion/columnists/dick-morris/96003-gop-dry-up-will-to-cross-border

The real answer is not to round up Latinos in the streets of Phoenix and hope to catch illegals in the net. Nor is it even to pretend that we can stop determined men and women from crossing the border by way of more guards, more troops and better equipment. The answer is to dry up the will to cross the border in the first place by stopping employers from offering jobs to undocumented workers. If there were felony penalties -- jail time -- for hiring illegals, they would not be hired. And if there were no jobs, there would be no illegal immigration.

The Republican position on illegal immigration should be to demand tough employer sanctions, including jail, and coupling that program with a vigorous guest-worker program to bring needed workers in legally, pay them a living wage and then escort them out when they are no longer needed. The United States, in need of a younger population to pay for our current and future retirees, should also raise the allowed levels of immigration.

Both parties are hypocritical on immigration. Democrats, controlled by unions, want Latinos to vote but not work. Republicans, controlled by agribusiness interests, want them to work but not vote. The answer is to stand up to union and to agribusiness pressure and take tough action to stop the hiring of illegal immigrants.

If there were no jobs for illegals outside of guest-worker programs, there would be no need for amnesty. They would all go home of their own accord or wait until they got legal status.

We would need a foolproof, biometric identity card to speed identification of those eligible for employment to accompany the sanctions against hiring illegals, but this is a small price to pay for an answer to so pressing a problem.

Blessings,
M.

just received this in an e-mail...

You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal".
Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California.

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.
Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.
Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00.
Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631.00.
Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for auto insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc.

Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.
Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

Then the "small price" becomes larger as laws are passed requiring the use of the card to do daily things like cross the border or buy gas, or ride on a bus, or get a drivers license, or, or, or.....

And if the card includes a RFID chip it could be used to trace your movements from the time you roll out of bed until you get back in. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Mike,
I will pass on this post. America is exploding within.

Here is a real world example and that old adage "What comes around goes around".
Talking to a friend yesterday from Atlanta. You remember the town that seemed to have no end to new housing developments and suburbs. It seemed her neighbor Jackie was always bragging on how much money they saved building her mansion across the street in her new $350,000 home. Jackies husband worked as a eletrician making over $30.00 and hour. Every morning the truck would arrive with a crew of disrespectful workers and at night they would leave. She told me that just about everyday she had to clean-up trash, papers, wrappers etc that was strewn in her lawn. She finally had enough, and confronted the foreman "No Comprende" he said. She tells it like it is and told him "Comprend This***" She threatened to get INS and he immediately changed his tune.
Jackie moved in to her mansion still gloating. Then her husband lost his job. It seems his company was sold, he was offered his old job back at $10.00 and hour. It seems they could do that since with all of the cheap labor available. Jackie lost the house in foreclosure and she's not bragging about how much money she's saving now. Oh I forgot to mention most all of the new houses were built with the same cost saving methods in her burb. It's like a Ghost town now.

Well you got the jest of the story by now.
I respect everyone and judge no one. I don't live in a Glass House and Ethics and Honesty are my priorities.

I detest the free loading atmosphere that is proliferating in our country and call for a change. Wake-Up America before it's too late. "There's No Free Lunch"
