Thank You daddy for all that you have done, inspite of all my mistakes.

I can now understand the responsibilities of being a father after becoming a father myself and so I love you more now than ever.

These are the words for my father on this Father's Day.

in one resounding, epoch making, historic address to the Annual General Meeting of the Akhand Bharat Platformwasi Shishu Seva Mandal many decades ago a eminent lady had once hollered deafeningly . . .

"fathers day is the time when children show their love to their dads by doubling their demands for chocolates and ice cream . . . . an opportunity for all children everywhere to remind their mothers that fathers rock by asking for cakes to be baked for dads . . . . the time to remind the world that only daddies can save the world if spiderman is on sick leave!"

that day that lady brought tears to all eyes . . . .

It was 63 years back I ran away from home for I felt that my dad was too ambitious. I was not sure whether it was the remark of every known friend remarked that I was not fit enough to be called the true son of a great man. He asked to me learn driving his car when I was just 12, took me to the tennis court at my age 14 that a judge who played tennis remarked that the dad was quicker on his feet than the son. Probably I was jealous of a famous father that ran away to the city. Now I realize how much worse would have been the sons of Mahathma Gandhi Rajaji, Vallab Bhai Patel and others.

The AVM studio of the present day was only thatched office and I sat in a line of boys who were waiting for a chance in acting. Mr. Iyengar who was the then casting head asked me if I can act. I told him I was doing B.Sc. In Loyola and I can do only a writing job as part time. In 1947 my being in a college must have appealed to him. He gave me a script and asked me make four carbon copies. Those were the terrible two hours of writing with a carbon pencil. The pressure used for impressing through three carbon sheets caused unbearable pain to my fingers and the wrist. He was not also impressed by my performance on paper. Yet he paid me four Annas ( 25 pyse ) By the time I came out of the studio I had made up my mind to go for training for picking pockets in the city bus.

It was the very man who promised to train me, came along with a police man to capture me as came out of AVM. The cop gave one big slap and took me to my room in hotel Everest. When the cop took back to Paramakudi by train, he did not know that I was happy to be taken back home. Those were days when Prodigal son looked exactly like a Fatted-Calf was one reason for the father not buying one for the feast and another .. I was yet become a meet eating rowdy.

It is only after he passed away that I realized how much he had gone through to make man out of me. Senthil proves certainly a better son.

I just don't understand it at all. why son's are only shown as example of their father (can I put fathers here as I had mentioned sons there -- but then fathers don't sound apt at all na?)

If you see Indira Gandhi has been the replica of her father except for the mountbatten lady affair.

Even if you take an example of the Haasans. suhasini has acting as well directorial skill as her father Charu haasan and she lacks the 'lawyerism' in her like her father.

Same way with kamal's daughters too?

Then why only it is mentioned fathers try to make a man of their sons and not their daughters? Jawaharlal Nehru made a man of Indira Gandhi na?

When will this MCP attitude die?

did i not mention that the best ever speech about fathers' day was given by a lady . . . a lady who is a daughter, a sister, a wife, a daughter in law, a mother, a mother in law and a grandmother all rolled in one . . . truly remarkable lady . . . salute her for her great fathers' day speech!

Senthil Anna,

You can be Thayumanavan" & "Thanthaiyumanavan" to your daughter !

I try very hard and my kids appreciate me just as they pull my legs if I am very strict with them.
