Hello, ON CHENNAI WATER CRISIS Bala Pillai recently posted a news clipping that showcased the Ashkelon Water Desalination Project, the brainchild of an Israeli Engineer. I had a discussion with Mohan, (another great thinker in this Ryze Network), who shared his great anxiety on the WATER CRISIS that spells almost DOOM for CHENNAI. I made a Google search and found the following interesting and useful link-info that could give us a focus to think. http://www.blonnet.com/2003/09/15/stories/2003091500010900.htm http://www.financialexpress.com/print.php?content_id=64190 http://www.chennaionline.com/cityfeature/Chennai/12desalination.asp http://livingin.phpwebhosting.com/asia/in/index.php/2004/02/11/p664-Thinking_about_Chennai_s_water_problems http://www.chennaimetrowater.com/300mldsw.htm http://newstodaynet.com/28aug/bu3.htm http://www.orfonline.org/chapters/discussion/ds040821.htm Yes, like you all, I also don't know what is the seriousness and goalmindedness with which the Governments in the State and the Center in India are approaching the CHENNAI WATER CRISIS issue. The magnitude of the crisis is huge and the impending disaster may also be grotesque. The greatest anxiety could be that the CHENNAI WATER CRISIS should not end up as yet another issue generating news like political mudslinging, corruption charges and the following protracted legal disputes, the typical archaic governmental way how many projects don't see the light of the day, public apathy from questioning the powers that be (whomsoever it is), etc. Yes, water is another CHENNAI issue, may be far more important than anything else in CHENNAI, that requires a long-lasting solution. The only limitation is that all we can do through WE CARE FOR CHENNAI, as of now, can just be opinion building. But this itself is a massive job. If we are able to this successfully in a short-time, I don't think we will be fighting a losing battle. Consider this. People have learnt to live with problems. Most don't feel at all that there could be a solution. It is purely the domain space of educated ones to do the job of opinion building in an aggressive way. The same marketing strategies for selling concepts are required for this opinion building exercise. Where are they? Yes, they are you and me. Thanks to Bala Pillai and Mohan for triggering the CHENNAI WATER CRISIS issue. Govind Srinivasan Private Reply to Govind Srinivasan |
