The weekend opens with a new

Fufa fiesta online

My favourite Sea food restaurant in Mumbai is a small restaurant called "Malvani - Kalvani" in Orlem, Malad West - Mumbai.

You can have a good scrumptuous meal with two different variety of fishes for Rs.100.00. Mahesh Lunch home has made a name for itself, but when it comes good food which is very good value for money, I would choose Malvani-Kalvani.
Don't miss the Sol Curry - made from Kokkam and also try their Bombil Fry.

Lets do the FuFa
Lage Raho....

Ahh,.. Mahesh Lunch is awesome.

One of my favourites is Windsor Pub in Bangalore. Run by an quaint couple, with amazing Konkan food. Plus Beer to wash it all down. Then they also to manage to rock you some old numbers.
This place is in Vasantnagar.

One of my favorite eating joint is Prem's in Koregaon Park, Pune. Both lunch and dinner are good times. At dinner the crowd is more (has many OSHOites as it is close to OSHO ashram).

My favorite there is Paneer Shashlik Sizzler. Here is more info about them (from VirtualPune.com)

Address: 28/2 Koregaon Park,Opp. SBI Training Centre,
Pune 411001
Tel.: 6130985
8:00am-11:00pm

Serving Chinese food also, this romantic setting complete with candlelight and all, specializes in Indian and Continental food.Famous for their variety of cheesy bakes especially the vegetable au gratin or then the spinach one, they have many more to choose from. The Indian menu consists of dishes like Paneer Tikka Masala and the likes. From the Chinese menu their American Chopsuey and Vegetable Manchurian are rather popular. If you’d rather avoid the calories courtesy those colas, you can opt for their juices whether fresh lime or then watermelon.

One of my fav. eating joints in Bangalore:
Any of the Nandhini chain of restaurants.
Serves typical Andhra Style food (spicy)
Preferable dishes are:
Full Meal (pure veg and unlimited)
Chicken/Mutton Biryani
Chilly Chicken (Andhra Style)

The places are open from 11.00am to 3.00pm and 7.00pm to 11.00pm. Saturdays and Sundays are really crowded. ambience is simple and neat. Good for family outings. Service is okay.

dining out?

"Indian Hotel", "Hamza's", "Tawakkal" and "Idrees Cold Drink"

fine eateries -
at Bhendi Bazaar -
stones throw from the big Mazaar -
on the way to Chor Bazaar -
in east west lane - the entry to the lane is
across the road from Pathanwadi aka Piru Galli -
proceed west from Ibrahim Rahimtulla Road -
as you enter the lane on the left is Saifee
Ambulance Office -
proceed twentyfive meters beyond that point -
on the right is Tawakkal Sweets -
adjoining Tawakkal is "Indian Hotel"
a little ahead on the left is Hamza's.

you cant miss it if your nose is right -
the aroma of the food reaches you before
you can see the shop - what you see first
is the big tava with the ganji clad chef -
adjoining the stainless steel topped tables
which during the afternoon are used for
chopping and marinating and later double
up for dining (strictly no wining here!) -

Indian Hotel
beginners - Rolls (forget frankies forever!),
BaidaRotis and Senwitch.
intermediate - Bhuna with naan followed by rice
(hardboiled eggs and spicy aloo to go along).
advanced - Bheja, Gurda, Kaleja all deep fried
with spicy thick Brishta gravy all devoured
with round naan or FakiriPav.

Hamza's
Sheekh Kebob like you've never had it better
followed by Tikkas of so many kinds - Chicken,
Gosh, Kaleji, Kheeri, with lots of Pudina and
Pyaaz . . . . some firang items by 'popular'
demand have crept in and corrupted the menu
while helpless protesters like me shouted
ourselves hoarse (like pizzas, russian
salad rolls and what not!) the quality and
taste of these too is good but as out
of place as serious business on FUFA!

Tawakkal's
Diabetic's anathema -
sweets of all kinds -
especially the Maalpoa, and the
Firni (in the small clay plate)!
Finally on the way home buy 500 grams
(enough for a family) of Suterfeni
and dunk it in unsweetened warm milk
for fifteen minutes before consuming
at the next breakfast!

On the way out of the hoggers park -
stop at Idrees Cold Drink and have some
never before sodas too! buy a 1.5 liter
pack of Jeera drink from Surat
to carry home too!

In Bangalore, my all time favourites have been:

1.Sunny's- It's now less cramped ( from the earlier place, i'd known and loved years ago)lovely interiors, has a lounge feel to it and still serves the best Italian food!

2.Bombay Post- Great Indian food at the Carlton Towers on Airport Road. Lovely interiors and a great relaxed setting

3. Karavalli at the Taj Gateway- Consistently won the best restaurant award for years. The best Konkani/Kerala/Chettinad cuisine in town!

4. Malgudi- A friend introduced me to this place and it's as good as Coconut Grove , which I loved years ago...

Bombay: ( ok, this list could be a little dated...)

1. Churchill's ( Great Continental food at great prices)
(Colaba)
2. Mahesh Lunch Home- super sea food

3. Not Just Jazz by the Bay- I love this place for it's location and large, open windows overlooking Marine Drive. Great Pizzas!

4. Khyber- Great Indian food- lovely place to entertain your guests from overseas :)

5. Samovar- a lovely, quaint little place at the Jehangir Art Gallery- great value for money - the guava juice there is the best I've had!

Bon appetit!

Great malwani food. try their Bhakris, wada-kombdi, or any of the fish variety. meal with all works out to bout 100/- Obviously no booze.

Further down on the aarey road..befor St. Pious, on the right is MALWANI KATTA. Abso fiery mutton rassa and hot rice is a must. Great teesrya and chimboris too.

Jaiprakash, again outside Goregaon station east - bhatkal biryani(order for the prawn). also great kro rotti and chicken. might as wll have the need dosa and paplet gassi.

This is an addition to Soeb's post on the culinary delights of Bhendi bazaar area.
Try out Valibhai Payavala at Bohri Mohalla. The most divine Saat handi I have ever eaten. Nalli nihari, Boti, Topa, eaten with these huge soft but crisp light rotis- yummmmm :)
Open around the year till 10.30 or 11.00pm, and during Ramzan opens at 11pm (there will be a line waiting to get in).

If you find yourself in the Chembur Camp area in the evenings, and want to hog:

Paya and pav - Hand cart outside Himalaya Wines. Have the soup or the trotters...either way its delicious and reviving. Be prepared to rub shoulders with burly truckies.
Open from 7 pm till the handi is over...that's by about 9.30

Tandoori Sea Food - Ranjit Da Dhaba. This actually was a genuine truckie dhaba - with charpoys and all till about 10 years ago. Now its a family restaurant - and the foods still the same. Go for the tandoori lobsters (if available), tiger prawns. the kebabs also are just great. Open till late. Booze available. The dhaba is in a side lane known as Dhabba Gully - the landmark is Sattu's Sweets next to Jhammas.

If you prefer veg food - Vaishnav Punja is the place to eat. Declicious vaishnav food without onions/garlic. Their rajmah-chawal is out of this world. Wash it down with chass.Open till late. Obviously no booze. This is right the the chembur-camp junction, diagonally opposite the crime branch office.

I found this amazing place during the past weekend. Its called Moonrakers and is in Mahabalipuram (just off chennai)

Their speciality is Seafood. They normally have a Catch of the day and do ask the person serving you on it. Famously famous for Tiger Prawns, Lobsters and moi favourite, Shrimp sauted in garlic butter sauce.

There were 3 of us last sunday and we pigged. lemme not tell you how much i ate, as it it will paint a picture of a really obese Harish Vittal.

Bon Appetit.

Talking about eateries, had been to this Chinese restaurant (authentic looking) in Besant Nagar, Chennai - i forget its name. Found a little roach creeping up the folds of the menu, called the waiter and told him "I didnt know you had cockraoch on your menu!" Poor fellow, innocently replied, "neither did i sir!" :)

anyways, for real good localised food,

Mumbai: Khau galli (for chats, pau bhaji, etc.) - churchgate

Chennai: Dhabba Express (one inside IIT and not the cenotaph one) - punjabi stuff are real good prices. Murugan idli - GN Chetty rd.

Chennai : The one hot place I luv is small place rather its a "mess" called aiyers mess also called riyaz mess or riyaz cafe dunno why. Its very basic no plates no spoons only banana leaves, no cups for sambhar and chutney its all poured on top of ur idly or vaada. Its a must if you luv idly vaadas ( they serve it piping HOT right of the stove cooked in the old style ) and dont care for the ambience. Have been going there for the past 5 years almost every sunday morning. Its suuupppperrrb. My mouths already watering :-)...and theres no bill too u have to count yourself what you have eaten and tell them. Menu is limited just idly , Vada & pongal. If you reach too late on sundays the food gets over. And on most sundays its packed so u will have to wait unless u go really early like 7.30 AM.

For punjabi food i like Tandoor & OPal Inn. The new yorker in Chennai SUCKS i went when it had just opened and we had italion which was the worst ever.

For italian food eden is superb. They have punjabi too which is pretty cool.. DONT EVER TRY BELLA CIAO...IT PROMISES AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD AND ALL THEY SERVE IS BRINJALS. We had ordered 4 - 5 dishes and in everything they had brinjals including the Pizza!! :)....and the guy who runs it says its AUTHENTIC italtion food...my ass ...Authentic or not it sucked. Little Italy is good I heard but enjoy the food so much.

I dunno if even fely it but if I have dinner at mcdonalds for 2 consecutive nights i fall sick :)

Junoesque is the right person to throw light on Delhi culinary expertise, but she is dieting these days! :D

Again, in light of LK(g)'s portugese slang, she & others may be a tad wary about declaring themselves 'FuFa'!

However, the most famous restaurant in India is in Delhi. I am talking about 'Bukhara' in Maurya Sheraton. It serves superb North-West Frontier cuisine at astronomical (by Indian standards) prices. Talking about Kababs and Tikkas, one should talk about the 'Kabab Factory' in the Radisson. Excellent kababs at moderately high prices.

Then you come to the traditional. If you want Parathas, go to the Parathewali Gali in Old Delhi, not that you don't get good variety of Parathas elsewhere, you get it everywhere!

I'll leave the rest for Juno to write about.

There is a very nice "maharashtria" eatery "Aswad" just opposite Shiv Sena Bhavan at Shivaji Park.

They serve very fresh maharashtrian snacks like misal, thalipeeth, sabudana vada etc. Has a long queue sometimes but worth the wait since the turnover is very fast.

The Speciality Indian Restaurant at
INTERCONTINENTAL - THE GRAND

currently featuring
Chettinad Festival

Good Food accompanied by good music
and a Bharat Natyam performance.

I was there last evening over dinner
with a good friend, Ashit Desai.

Started out with a tangy, garlic flavored,
lentil broth. The condiments and spices
were proportioned just right. Delightful
Parruppu Rasam!

Went on to Kozhi Uppu Curry - a trademark
Chettinad household spicy chicken speciality
with spicy thick gravy. Finger licking good!

The Keerai Poondu Masiyal was a concoction
of green leafy vegetables (mostly palak)
sauteed with garlic and tossed with a dash
of pepper. Highly recommended for vegetarians.
Served piping hot.

Iadiappum Tawa Parotta with the chicken and
vegetables rounded off the fare.

The pickles were attractive too.

Our only regret was that we were too stuffed
to progress to the desserts. Next time?

The Manager Sumit Sulabh is a great host,
ably assisted by Hostess Sameera and her
colleagues Dashwijith and Siddeshwar,
who kept fussing over us without getting
in the way of our enjoying the food and the

Hi All,
It is going to be very difficult to name my favourite food joints as I am a total foodie and just have too many favourites...but will try.
Mumbai..
Hersch, Gaylords, Ovenfresh, Mac Craig for the their sandwiches, rolls, croissants etc.
Pav Bhaji is best at the small joint outside Coopers Hospital or Sardar's at Tardeo.
Chinese is Mainland China, Legacy of China, China Garden.
For Continental, Pizzas & Pastas it has to be Gallops, Gaylords, Trattoria, Pop Tate's.
Sea Food I love Trishna, Apoorva.
For good maharashtrian fare, there is Aswad & Prakash Lunch Home at Shivaji Park.
And for my favourite Misal or Sabudana Khichdi it has to Datta Snacks at Panvel.
And i think best of all are the road site stalls for their hot Wada Pavs, sandwiches, pani puris, chaat or samosas.

I just love the Burgers at Nilgiris in Bangalore.

In Pune i love the food at Arthur's Theme, Malaka Spice & Good Old Coffee House Veg burger....with the bread roll deep fried...yummm. Also the cakes from Kayani and the burgers from Burger King. And then if i want to just chill out and relax with friends over a beer, then Swiss Cheese Garden at ABC farms is grt during he day.

In Delhi i have discovered that most places have amazing butter chicken but Rodeo at Cannaught Place has very good mexican food. I am sorry guys just forget the names of the restaurants there. Also some of the Stuff at Nirula's is pretty great too.

At Solapur, one must definitely visit the Junglee Resort which is on the Highway for their Mutton Achari and other mutton and chicken stuff.

In Goa, there is Sea Shell Inn for the most amazing food on that whole strip and another very small restaurant under the Candolim Bridge whose name i cannot remember who has the most amazing mussels and sea food. And for Pork Chops visit this small stall at the Miramar Beach Circle..near the Marriott Hotel.

I am sure there are more, will keep updating as and when i remember.
Cheers!!!
Nupura.

Hello Fufas..

a brief note on delhi joints..
i read the reviews of ppl above but not upto the mark..

1. Park Baluchi at Green Park (near Deer Park)
2. Copper Chimney at Greater Kailash.
3. United Coffee House (Connaught Place)
4. Haldiram's for pure delhi type food. (Lajpat Nagar and Mathura Road near Sarita Vihar- Gurgaon one is bad)
5. Panchsheel Rendevous at Malviya Nagar good food north indian and chinese.

Non-Vegie.. though i am a veggie but nevertheless my buddies are pure masaharis..

Karim's Jama Masjid (Old Delhi).

for mughlai food.. though little too oily and on the sweeter side but properly cooked in true mughlai style.
mutton rules over here.

Moti Mahal-Daryaganj.
a great place often visited by diplomats for authentic food.

Colonels Kebab at Defence Colony Market (South Delhi)
for great kebabs and spicy ckicken.. best for chicken.

Gulati's at Pandara Market (Near India Gate).
great non-veg food and ambience.

Salim's Kebab Corner (Khan Market-backlane)
s stand-alone very tiny eatery with no sitting or standing space but kebabs are delicious and worth a try n great value for money and a must visit.
his cousin has closed his shop from Khan Market and recently opened at Anand Lok (South Delhi).

Deez at Defence Colony Flyover Market
great biyanis. not a proper sit in restaurant but great food.

Chawla's Chick Inn chain
good for their chicken and little vegetarian.. located a various places in Delhi and North India.

Nizams Kathis at C.P. (Behind Plaza Cinema)
good for kathi rolls but little too oily..

Sanjha Chulha (Kailash Colony Market-back side)
earlier a small dhabha and owner was a cook at Saleems (also in the same market and good for mughlai food) now has made a big restaurant. good for chicken dishes and caters to the taste of hosts of punjabis who love spicy foods.

All of above are good joints and priced reasonably and little higher but not unreasonable.

Bukhara at Taj Palace Hotel (Near Dhaula Kuan) is the best and most expensive restaurant around.

Great Kebab Factory at Raddisson Hotel (Near Airport) is another five star eatery worth visiting though little expensive.

Thai Food:
the best of the lot is Bankok (degree) 1 at Sainik Farms just at the entry from Thimmaya Marg
for great thai food.

second good option is Red Correl at M.G. Road (Near Ghitorni)

Chinese

stand alone restaurants

1. Fujiya at Pandara Road Market
2. Lotus Pond at Greater Kailash
3. Chungwa at Greater Kails Part-II,
4. Golden Dragon at Panchsheel

South Indian.

Sagar Ratna at Defence Colony and at Ambassador Hotel.

Sarvana Bhawan at Connaught Place

Karnataka at Yusuf Sara (Green Park)

rest all are run of the mill kinds.

these are the few places which i could remeber of as of now..

though there are great road side eateries over here which cannot be described in this column but anyone looking for any info can call on me..:)

keep up the temp fufas..:)

How come nobody mentioned Kobes in Bombay & Dubai? I ate at Kobes in both places & the sizzlers were finger licking good as usual. For under Rs 250 in Bombay & about Rs 400 in Dubai i think the value for money is sensational. In fact my wife ate there 5 times in the 2 weeks she was in Bombay. She also ate 5 times at Rajmahal in Borivali(w).

I am a foodie too and I find seafood in Mumbai is way too expensive, for what it costs. Especially fish and prawns and squid etc. You can buy seafood so cheap in Mumbai. Go to Bhayendar station at 5.30 am for the auction and you can get fresh white medium pomfrets for 10 bucks each, wholesale. Well, even if you buy from the markets at colaba, you get good stuff but I am told the suburban markets are much cheaper. At Bhayendar you can get kilos of jumbo prawns for a throwaway price. So, why should seafood be expensive? No justification for that. In China, and far east seafood is dirt cheap even in restaurants and you get lovely stuff even on the roadside, simple and delicious. Even in Hongkong nightmarket a huge variety is available and dirt cheap. In China I am told you can feed 6 people with local beer and wine and have a hearty meals of seafood for Rs. 1200 and that too in a 5 star restaurant. Seafood is too overplayed in India and unnecessarily one pays so much in restaurants. Mahesh used to be cheap earlier but now its too expensive. Same with Bharat and the others like them. Any chinese restaurant charges an arm and a leg for seafood when they get it dirt cheap.

A reasonably priced seafood restaurant serving seafood delicacies from around the world ( not Indian at all ) will go down well. There I have given you a good idea all you Fufas?!!!!!

Ok Fufas...I have recently moved from Colaba to Wadala East...remember the Imax theatre? Same complex, so Central Mumbai.

Can you all let me know medium priced restaurants worth visiting and how to get there from home? I am a qualified chef and so am very fastidious about good food. I am a total non vegetarian, eats anything that moves!!! I am told Wanton House is very good at bandra and so am going there next week, after I fulfil all the invites I am going to this week.

Most people tell me about good food and when I go there I find it run of the mill. If its expensive its got to be fantastic, nothing less will do and thats for special occasions. I do a lot of cooking at my home from Pork spare ribs honey glazed in the oven, to Khow swey a Burmese coconut based mutton curry with 7 accompaniments, served with either fluffy white rice or spaghetti. I grill a mean beef steak, always had medium rare,no more.. make my own pepper sauce and mustard, serve it with either mashed or baked potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and brocolli and eat it with garlic toast. Its almost impossible for me to find a good Indian restaurant in Mumbai and I have been to most of them. The food at Mohd. Ali Road is better!! I eat only specialities even at breakfast!!!!

I find Chopsticks at Churchgate, good chinese food. If anyone goes there ask them to serve you what Arun Raghavan has!!!!! As many have told me they didnt care much for the food. I have always had an excellent chinese meal there, so someone must be ordering wrong. Lings Pavilion, behind Taj, is also very good, especially their various kinds of pot rice. Always ask for Johnny and he will order for you. Just tell him what meats you want or veggies and he will do the rest. Do it yourself and you may botch it up. Yes, Churchill, on colaba causeway opposite Khushroo Baug is very good value for money and good portions for continental food and excellent desserts. Very small place so seating is always a problem and you have to wait at times if you are more than two. Ayubs, in the lane behind Rythm House, is a very good value for money kabab joint and much cheaper than Bade Mians, though Bade Mian has much more variety.

For Nalli Nihari, a pepper based curry with a softly cooked beef steak and topped with bone marrow, Noor Mohamedi at the junction of Mohd. Ali Road with Null Bazaar turn off and next to Shalimar restaurant is the best. They have been serving this dish for around a hundred years!!! Try it with a plate of brain masala on top and sprinkle some chopped ginger and green chillies if you like. The lovely crisp Iranian rotis soak up the gravy well. You must go earlyish, 9 pm tops , otherwise they run out of the dish. Excellent for take away, if you are having guests at home. However the rotis will get leathery when cold, you can reheat them but its not the same thing.

The best payas I have had are made by Chhatriwala caterers, from Bandra, bohri style. Tell him you are a pal of mine and he will pick special payas for you and deliver it to you anywhere in Mumbai for a charge. Order the Shirmal which is the nan bread. It goes very well with the dish. His biryani is also the best I have had, hardly any oil and good portions of meat.

Gaylords has become very expensive and mainly offers choices in chicken... continental. I find the food normal there.

I don't like sizzlers as they normally dump all the veggies on top of the meats and its a hotch potch. Sometimes they over cook the meats. Never have sizzler steak if you want it anything but well done.

Starters and More make an excellent steak, with garlic toast. Its a fine dining restaurant that specialises in starters. They are the only one that has a good band almost every evening, except for Thursdays, when they have the popular Karaoke theme. Far better than Jazz by the Bay for Karaoke and they dont charge any entrance at all on any day.

I have told you all the nice places as far as I am concerned, all affordable and all very good in South Mumbai.

Now its your turn to tell me whats good near abouts East Wadala or accessible from there...Bandra Khar etc........

Well...if it's places you want tooeat..I have tonnes..
Ok so I'm sure ONE day or another you'll are gonna land up in Goa..and everyones gonna ask someone or the other WHERE's A GOOD PLACE TO EAT???..
hmmmm...tough one...
well Maybe I can Help a bit..( :D )
Ok...here's osme options
If your a Veg Girl/Guy
you might wanna check out Navtaras in Panjim or even kamat's near the panjim church..although their Menu is a bit limited..
If you wanna try the Goan Fish Curry Rice...take it from a Local Goan...don't Waste your time and Money eating at some flashy place cause their gonna rip you off serve you crap and then laugh in the kitchen that they made you eat crap and you PAID for it...(doesn't make you feel to good doeas it???)
Go to some of the small looking places... It may look a bit shady but believe the food is better, ask someone for a government canteen places or at times you find places that only serve food in the afternoons(usually family's that cook food for others)eg:- Anandaashram in Panjim on 31st January Rd. ( I've been there myself and really like the food) there's also some near the Goa Medical College Bambolim a few meters from the main entrance gate... you can ask wanyone...they'll let you know..
The food is good and Cheap(20 buck's or a little more)
Not 100-150 bucks that a 5 star would charge...the only thing you do at a five star is use the Clean toilets(and leave them clean Mind you)
any ways...
If you like Le NOn Veg...
where do I start?????
Ok let me start with my favor..
theres Inferno's in Candolim...(I still DREAM bout the spare ribs and steaks mmmmmmmmmmmmmm......)
Theres also Brittos in Baga..their Meat platter is worth the money..
Well if you want to indulge in Exotic meat's (Deer, turtle,Bat etc...don't cringe till you've tried it)
there's a few places but..lets just leave that name for the REALLY interested shall we..
You can also try Fisherman's cove right next to Inferno's in Candolim
Starlight On the Arpora road..on the way to the Saturday Night market...
There's Texas in Panjim(try the Green Coconut Chicken..made with tender cocnut..goes well with butter naans)
Shere E Punjab..ask for the Tangdi Kabab (not on the menu btw.. you have to Ask for it..little secret)
If you make a trip to Palolem(which everyone in their life time must do ONCE) try eating at Found things...the 9 of us ate for 200 bucks!!!!! OK you'll might not get the same kinda bill but..then the food was good.
Well if your not feeling that hungry...and would like a little Snack..don't go to these Fancy shmancy places..they have nothing worth sinking your teeth into..try the D'Silva caterer's at Miramar Beach..esp cutlet bread, and pork chop with bread...filling and sinfully delicious..
Well I'm kinda drowning with places and I'm feeling hungry so I'll continue some other time... :D

hi guys

my favourite hang out place is la fiesta. located on the youth hub of ahmedabad - c.g. road, at prime location, the restaurant gives a nice view of the eastern side of city. confortable seating arrangement with proper air conditioning facilities n excellent ambience, it provides all the relaxation that we expect from such ambience.

the food served includes italian (main focus) and maxican (select dishes) with so much of choice, that one can plan even a seven course dinner if he wishes!!! if anybody's visitin ahmedabad sometime for fun (as it is a fun city), just make it a point to visit la fiesta - n dont forget to try their tradional italian pizza!!! the cost range is a bit above average, with per person cost ranging in Rs. 400 - 600 depending on the course one selects.

enjoy!!!

Maddy

City : Mumbai

For Seafood, I will undoubtedly opt for SAAYBA at S.V.Road, Bandra(West). The lady owner there buys the daily quota of fish personally. And what's more, the masalas used are specially prepared by her at home.

Try the Prawns fry masala, mori masala, and the normal fish fry, be it Surmai, paaplet, halwa or whatever you like. Everything is delicious. A full meal for four will cost you something between Rs.600 to Rs.1000. And believe me, it is definitely worth it. Veggies stay away, or better still, move on to the next paragraph.

Guru-da-Dhaba at Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri(West), is a very good joint for veg food, if you are not fussy about the decor and ambience etc. A frowning Sardarji and his family serve you the best veg food. Try the Kaali daal, Rajma, Alu Masaledaar etc. Be sure to top it with his famous Chaas. And don't mind the Sardar. He is basically a good soul.

For non-vegetarians who do not mind raste-ka-gaadi, do try the "Kombdi-wada" at Shivaji Park. It is the most scrumptious meal you can ever imagine. Bang outside "Hotel Sachin", just a small distance away from the Sena Bhavan, this chap Raju serves you with some nice fare of Chicken and Fish dishes. Try it out!

On the Chinese front, I personally like Legacy of China at Seven Bunglows, Andheri(W). They have recently changed the staff, and the new staff is not as efficient as the old one. However, the food quality is good, though a bit expensive. Try out their Chicken Tai pan kay, Thai Grilled Fish and Golden fried prawns. They also have a very good choice for the veggies. Try their Sesame potato on toast or Crispy fried vegetables. I also liked their Veg Indonesian Fried rice.

I guess that's it for now.

This is Maddy signing off...

Cheers~

Hi all ye fufa foodies . Here's my take on the Amchi Mumbai food joints .

Manglorean - Trishna - Neer dosa et el with the thick curry is good

There are many lined up in the inner lanes of Fort. There are quite a few Manglore messes in the Sahar - Andheri East Area. The best amongst them is Nityanand.

Parsi - Try Ideal near PM road - great food at a decent price

Sasanian - Nr Metro Mosque - Great Dhanshak

Iranian - Brittania & Co. Ballard Estate - Berry puloa - This place would have a fat Fowl ( the owner's pet) sitting on the cashier's counter unfettered.Poor thing passed away.

Moghlai - Other then the ones mentioned earlier there are:-

Bagdhadi - Next to Bade Miyan behind TAJ
Try their fish biryani - Boneless morsels of pure bliss

Olympia - Great Kheema for breakfast- They open at 7:00 am

Malvani - When in Worli try the shacks nr TV industrial Estate . You should be ok with the arrangments though. The food is Authentic especially the sea food . Bombil fry is a compulsion.

Goan - Martins - Colaba , City Kitchen , - Both mentioend in earlier posts.

I shall append this in the near furture ..

Bon Appétit or Guter Appetit or even Buen Apetito

There's a really small joint in Pali Malla, Mumbai which serves great sea food. It also has chicken for those who'd rather have that. Great value for money...and if you're uncomfortable sitting there, order home delivery. Call 26483381 or 309541482

Basab Ghoshda ..Welcome to the most wonderful city where you can get rice at Rs. 2/- per kg, Free TV sets with Cable Connection and free land for farming. These are the present Election promises from future probable Mayors and Councillors. But you are little early. If you can wait for two ,more years then we can make our chief minister promise a guest welcome committee who will take care of your immediate needs for 15 days. Now in Chennai there is only one who is not affected with Chickungunya but she is not available for dinner? only lunch as she is totally a day flier. If you say yes, then I will inform "aedes aepypti"...nice name na?

Yes Lalit,

U must try 'Malka Spice' ! I am quite hooked on 2 their food. And make it a point 2 go there whenever i am in Poona 4 a few days. U must meet Cheru and Praful, one of them is usually there. Infact, last yr, my pre birthday dinner celebrations with parents and brother were with a dessert on the house - honey sesame noodles with ice cream.

All those promises by LK(g) came to nought! I am here in Chennai for the past three months and not a sight of her!

There is a saying in Bengali that one should immediately flee a city where Muri (puffed rice) and Misri (Crystallised cane sugar) sell at the same price. Here in Chennai Tandoori Roti and Butter Naan sells at the same price, Rs. 40/- per piece! Unfortunately, I can't flee the city any time soon!

Bangalore-A few places only old bangaloreans would know and youll must try,I havent seen these listed also...so must be a good resource.

Sidappa-For an amazing south indian breakfast. This is housed in a temple courtyard in a small house.
Rules:Do not throw away the Banana Leaf that they give when you enter.Thats your only chance of surviving till the end.
Order:take the idli's ,dont forget to say ok to the sagu.
Then you have neer dosa and a few other south indian dishes.Have enough place for the Masala Dosa which you should be lucky if you get it within half an hour.so make your intentions clear in the beginning of the breakfast.
Directions:Ask for Hotel Geo in Sampangi Ram Nagar,(very close to Kanteerva Stadium),Take the lane in front of the hotel and take the second left and look for a temple courtyard.Ask anyone for Sidappa Hotel in the locality.

Vidyarthi Bhavan:On Gandhi Bazaar Main Road,Close to Roti Ghar,An old looking house serving south indian specialities.Pure Veg.
Must Have:Masala Dosa

Lakshmi Nataraj Refreshments:In the heart of the traditional business centre of bangalore, this is 200 metres from Chickpet Nagarathpet Circle. It is on Nagarathpet main road, ask for Raja Market, and it is 100 metres from there.
Have fixed south indian meals in the after noon.
After 7 in the evening have
GHEE BHAT DOSA WITH PODI.
IDLY with Gatti Chutney and Ghee.

Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan:Balepet Main Road.
Again famous for its Dosa's and South Indian Food.

Guess you have the other common places already listed from Karavalli,MTR,Parantha Point,Windsor Pub,Aqua,Kamats,Coconut Grove,Casa Del Sol............

Would love to know these kind of uncommon places across various cities.

Cheers,

Amit.
