hay I am Lavanya karalkar, fondly called by everyone as
LK(g). May be they think my IQ is only that level.. let that be.. but even with my LK(g) intellect, I feel this board needs to be addressed more frequently and any problem related to chennai should be addressed in this board,.
What say friends?

Harish,

You are right. I am one with you, when you say that we require to activate this discussion-board. But, as I have been maintaining right from the beginning, the objective of WE CARE FOR CHENNAI (WCFC) should not end up with maintaining the network for the sake of just online exchange of views.

It is my firm hope that society will benefit a lot, if internet could play a pivotal role in bringing people together and harness their energies for common good.

A network like WCFC should make people get introduced to each other on-line with the specific objective of taking that introduction to real-time activities. WCFC's theme is promoting the common cause of making life in CHENNAI safe and even act like a watchdog.

I am keen even to hand over managing this board to anybody else, if that could trigger creativity and energy in making a healthy start-up of WCFC's agenda.

Even at the cost of provoking people, who are in WCFC Network now, let me share with you my simple finding. Internet in India, as a capable platform to bring service-minded zealots together, is still a difficult job. But, then, I neither want to go off, convicing myself that WCFC on-line activities may go waste.

True, I am not able to find that much of time that is required to create that enduring effect in this network that people should join hands and ensure that a lot of work is done for common cause. But neither want to call it quits.

Yes, let me watch out for responses, which could prove me wrong. And I want to be humbled.

My next posting follows quickly.

Mr. Govind and Harish..this also refers to my PM to you Mr. Govind regarding moderating each and every message posted by the member. You yourself have admitted you are a busy man yourself Mr. Govind, when messages are to be posted duly moderated, then it will take quite some time and naturally the responses also would take time. Please allow the members to post what they like without your whip and I am sure, the members would be responsible to post only relevant message. Moreover, what does it matter, even if among 10 messages, 2 are irrelevant. it will add to the interest of more members joining the board who can work for a common cause. Today we may like to discuss whether BSNL executives are justified in their unofficial agitation?

Harish..I would like to get your views on this?

Lavanya - am sure now that people like u and Harish have taken interest in this Network ...its sure to go on a breakneck speed and catch up with other Networks. Govind, I second LK(g)'s suggestion of allowing all to post whatever they want. Any irrelevant message or crap will only reflect on the individual and not the other members or the Network. Take care all

Hello Lavanya,

Ryze itself has given a provision to moderate on non-moderate discussion boards. After giving enough thought to the issue of moderating msgs, I decided to moderate the WCFC on-line board.

As I said earlier, I am very clear that WCFC should create a synergy between online interaction and realtime action.

It is also my personal perception that WCFC has to take just 2 or 3 Chennai-centric issues and continue working on that, in stead of talking about anything and everything. This does not mean that there should be a rigidity in whatever that is discussed. But there is no point in expressing just our disappointment, frustration and anger and NOT a cting like a converging platform for taking up issues and battling them out by involving a huge lot of people, WHO HAVE VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH ANYTHING CALLED INTERNET.

My pre-occupations do NOT create any mentionable delay in making the postings appear quickly, but for rare exceptions.

Again, in my personal opinion, WCFC should have real-time action programmes and should use the online board only for pure facilitating such programmes. There are enough online boards, which have strayed off-course, even in Ryze, and the owners have lost interest in maintaining them, as I see.

I don't mind handing over WCFC to anybody else, who would manage it more efficiently. But I don't want to manage it, unless I moderate the msgs. THERE IS AN INCREDIBLE DIGITAL NOISE ALREADY IN OUR LIVES through e-mail, SMS, Group Discussion boards, etc., and I don't think that WCFC should add up to the DIGIAL DECIBEL.

I AM THANKFUL TO YOU FOR SHAKING ME UP FROM MY ON-LINE STUPOR.

Govind Srinivasan
Moderator
WCFC, Chennai

I am glad we are hearing this discussion. Firstly its healthy to air views... Govindji, WCFC should be a forum (as i feel it) where Chennaities are able to relate to each other. We have always complained that this is a conservative city, always on the backfoot, etc.

Why not give it unlimited leash ? As a test... what this will do is bring in more people active on the board. When there is a larger forum to address, it will slowly over a period give rise to quality that we are aiming for.

Yes, it can be a sounding board for issues, problems, positive news, etc. It can also be a board where Chennaites can find anything. What this does is make it more visible... alongwith common themes like rental availabiltiy or mad jokes posted by people, you will start to get more people responding to issues which are posted. You will get a Active board.... ! which is the first important step this board needs.

P.S - let the moderator not moderate for a while. Lets say after 30 days, we can take a consensus on the board itself on its going ons. i promise there should be good response...
