Hello WCFC members,

Thanks to Lavanya's timely suggestion, I have just recast this Message Board. The new look of this Msg Board should be reader-friendly and posting-friendly. Monitoring the discussion-thread becomes very easy with this new look and features.

Let us now find ways and means to huddle together online and in real time to assure ourselves that WE CARE FOR CHENNAI.

Thanks Govind..I am sure we all will thrive to improve 'the singara Chennai'..

Friends..In order to address a problem, we should first know the problem, analyse possible solutions etc. Now, I,with the permission of moderator, would like to address the the following problem :

If you walk in Pondy Bazar or for that matter in many parts of the city, the footpath is very much higher than the roads and it becomes tiresome for youngsters and practically impossible task for senior citizens to climb on the footpath for few yards then get down at the bi-lane and then again climb..

What are your views friends on this issue and how can we solve this problem. One possible solution will be to form an action group and meet the authorities..

SOEB FATEHI
Yes LK(g) we can solve this problem very easily.

First you need a good digital camera.
Take at least three dozen photographs
of the road and the footpath. also shoot
old ladies and men (with or without
walking sticks and escorting persons)
experiencing difficulty in using the
footpath near intersections and bylanes.
the photographs should be natural and
with a date stamp.

Then take them on a CD and give it to
Civil Engineering Department,
and Architecture/Town Planning Department,
Professors in charge of Highway Engineering
and Town Planning, at IIT(Madras), REC(Trichy),
Guindy Engg College, School of Architecture
and Planning at Anna Univ.
Request them to give their valuable
unbiased opinion from the point of view
of ergonomics, usability, accident hazard,
health hazard.

Get similar opinions from Vellore Medical
College and other surces.

Send also to IIT Kharagpur, dept of town
planning. .

Send also to Indian Heritage Society,
and to Intach.

Seek opinions from Institution Of Engineers
Chennai Center, Council or Architecture,
Indian Institute of Architects, Practising
Engineers, Architects and Townplanners
Association.

Send me a copy please.

Use the photographs as inspiration and
ask local Leo Clubs and Interact Clubs
to organise essay compatitions in schools
with Chennai pavement improvement as
the subject.

Ask NASA (National Association of
Students of Architecture) to organise
a pavement design competition at their
annual convention.

On receipt of opinions you may then
circulate the photographs with opinions
to at all the leading daily newspapers
and tabloids. Call Aajtak, NDTV, and
Aankhon Dekhi to cover the reports.

If nobody listens to you after all this
then come settle down in Mumbai.

Aa@rt!
Well..
Wonderful start LK(g) and interesting suggestions from Soebji as ever..
Why not have a samll step for evey 10ft,so that elders and others can use that to hop onto the Platform and make their way around that stretch of the road..
Not to forget the hoards of peddlers, broken tiles, sewer holes in the pavement that are a bigger risk..
:)
