Harish Vittal
Age - 28 (but not for very long)
Industry - Banking

Currently live in Chennai for the past 2 years. Bangalore grown Tamilian, probably speaks a lot for my tamil speaking skills. Gotten introduced to Ryze through a friend and am in here mainly for my interest in writing \ reading.

But along the months, i have interacted with many a people and with varied interests, opinions and outlook. This is why Ryze becomes so special in bringing varied minds together.

My passions are Writing, cooking, photography and all of it which i don't do so well and wish to always improve upon. Projects with NGOs also interest me and i try to help in whatever way i can and i only wish i had time on my side.

Got into WCFC a very long time ago but had always found it very inactive. But with Govind & co, we are trying to make it an active ground for Chennai's self improvement and a sounding board for like minded people on various issues, interests and needs!!

Lavanya Karalkar
Hi !1 Sharada and Narasimhan..welcome..Sharada..about the autorikshas..yes that is a bad patch for Chennai..However, the autorikshawalas are learning a bitter lesson from the Call taxi walas. These Call taxi runners are so good, the rates are reasonable, the meter is not tampered and unless you talk to, the driver never utters a word except to ask you where you want to go. Just a call atleast half an hour before if you are in city and one hour before if you are in suburbs makes your life very easy. The charges are mimimum Rs. 30/- for first 3 kms and then each km is charged at Rs. 9/- or part thereof.so why don't you try either Chennai call taxi, fast Track ,Bharathi etc and use autos only when it is absolutely needed. Ofcourse, I wont say all autowalas are bad..some are so good and educated, you feel like shelling out another Rs.5/- more than agreed upon.I know after some time you wont like any other place except Chennai.

Narasimhan..i know you already love chennai otherwise you wont be in this board na>

Hello

I am Anuradha, people end up calling me Anu and I then get them to call me Annu. I am from Cochin but married into Chennai and now live here. Been working in Consumer Banking for about five years. I can speak some tamil and understand some. I like the homeliness of Chennai and for one hope that modernity doesn't wear it away completely. The fact that the average 'uncle' or 'aunty' you bump into can identify Carnatic ragas is awesome too..

My interests include music, writing, reading, traditional art, cinema, collecting some stuff, cooking (sometimes), gardening, bio diversity etc etc.
Here's cheering for my 'adopted' city. Was wondering if you guys know of any 'friends of trees' type of group here

cheers

Samuel Eddy
Hi! I am samuel Eddy-an event manager. I started my company EMCom-The Event management Company in 1995 and handle recreation for most of the top IT companies in the city.

I have been almost all over the world and have seen quite a few cities but love Chennai all the same!!

I cant see myself living anywhere other than chennai.

Being a Planter I am fascinated by greenery and was very happy to see most of the roads turning green in the medians being constructed on almost all roads.

But if you notice you will find betal and Paan stains on almost all these medians. Now who does it?Is it the uneducated people doing it? No it is the high profile guys who travel by luxury cars who spit on these beautiful medians.

I get soooooooo angry when i see this mess .But how does one stop this? There are campaigns like Singara Chennai which tries to beautify the city but if people dont co-operate then what does the government do?

I felt that the guys caught spitting on the medians should be made to clean it !!! get 2 guys to do this and all the others will stop spitting after chewing paan or gutka.

This in spite of the fact that there is a ban on Gutka.

I also feel that the tree planting which was done on a war footing by involving school children etc is not being sustained .If it is it will improve chennai further.

What is it that as a group we can do for Chennai. That is what will be worthwhile doing by being part of this network.

look forward to ur views.

Regards,

Samuel

Agree with Samuel, yes it is mostly the educated who actually litter, and always wonder on the transformation of their attitude and behaviour when they go abroad, Would they dare do it elsewhere!!!

I am Prasad...

Born & bred in Madras - though I have gone to other cities for education. Got back when I started working & settled here, naturally. My work ex is in advertising, other communications & related areas – I have worked in ad agencies & corporates. My wife is from Madras too.

Travel to other cities & short stays during academic days - up to 1 or 2 years - have only deepened my liking for Madras, without taking away from what other cities have to offer.

Try to read & play tennis when I get time - which is increasingly difficult. Current peeve - cant stand the popular serials aired on TV & the fact that people are glued to such terrible programs.

Was an inactive ryzer & have started getting active very recently. Was pleasantly surprised to come across WCFC.

Glad to meet people who appreciate the city.

Suggest Govind calls for a meeting.

Prasad,

Thanks for your intro.

Based my experience in running this network in the past, I am trying to apply as much caution as possible in making people huddle together.

Meeting for the sake of meeting is what I am trying to avoid, while I appreciate that there is no point in talking out issues all the time in this virtual platform.

Pl have a look at the description of this network, which I have changed.

Yes, we will meet soon in any case.

Soeb,

I am a little tired now of the kapi-tea meetings. A little impatient too. I don't mind failing again by design and NOT by default now. I think we failed earlier by default. Appears that a few of the people whom I am coming across now are really interesting. But I am compelling myself not to make a false start. I would like to ensure BUSINESS CONTINUITY in whatever we plan now, so that we make right-sized and implementable plans. At least, this is my broad idea.

Also, I have my personal time-constraints too in physical participations, courtesy my project commitments in work, about which I have briefed you.

Hope you would appreciate. I am sending a personal msg too to you. I hasten to add here that you are a definite strength to WCFC and I would request you to continue that in increasing measure.

Roopa (CC) Govind is justifiably bitter because i know how many times he tried to arrange for some meetings to be followed by action and they all turned out to be virtual kapeeeeeeeee meets.. All enthusiastically planning and then just backing out. Everytime a new member joins, it all starts 'why not we meet here, meet there' to end up in no meet at all. Now some of you fix up a meet and PM me, Govind, sushi, Lalitha, we all will be there..Ofcourse Soeb Fetehi will morally and telephonically will be present there. Dear Govind,

Although I became a member in this forum some time back, have not been in touch for a while. After scanning through the self-intros here, thought I would re-introduce myself.

Am a brought -up Chennaiite and love this place - although it is either dusty or flooded!!!! Live with a family of 2 kids. Am a HR consultant for the Hotel and retail trades.

There are a lot of concerns about this city, including the ones I hv mentioned. The question is who will bell the cat?? and how do we go about it??

I read a few members mentioneing inability to attend meetings on Sundays, etc. Could we possibly schedule the meetings on different days so that everyone would definitely get an opportunity to attend the same. For eg., one meeting could be on Sunday the next could be on a weekday. My sincere wish is that lets meet and get things going.

Cheers!

Hi, I am Rangashree. I joined this network some months back. Introduced by wanderer. I really CFC so I signed in for WCFC. Born & brought up in Delhi where every South Indian is pigeon holed as 'Madrasi', I find the attitude of some Northies & NR Southies quite appalling! In any case I am a big fan of Madras aka Chennai & am seriously concerned about issues like the marshland in velachery being destroyed ( I got some inside news that a hideous amusement park project was coming up there!!) and land grabbing by powerful leisure lobbies on ECR. maybe WCFC can identify some genuine people like DV Sridharan of Goodnewsindia & drum up support against the villians!
My area of interest is children, reading & getting chennaities learn Tamizh! I am involved in community reading centres & mobile libraries in slum areas.
Looking fwd to meeting you all up at the next WCFC meet!

Hi Fellow Members

I am shiva, working out of Singapore but was a native of chennai. I am a great fan of chennai for many of its good bits like traditional values and culture that is still prevalent in the city. Aura of Hindu temples..esp. the Kapaleeshwarar temple im Mylapore will stay in my heart forever, but I shouldn't forget to say my love about Mayilai Karpagambal mess..one place I would never say no to.

Apart from this I love the Carnatic music festival of chennai....that's where the soul gets penetrated. NGS Woodlands and what not.....chennai is simply irresistible....love every aspect of it.

I am proud to be part of this group.

Cheers
Shiva.

Welcome Tarun and Shiva..

It is indeed a pleasant surprise to see an army personnel in this forum..If you ask me why it is surprising, then I dont have any reply..It is just that may be Tarun is the first army personnel (that is what I know ) and hence the surprise element.

Shiva..nostalgic memories always binds you to the place and if you see the Kapaleeswarar Temple now, you will be pleasantly surprised. It has been renovated, the karpagraham has AC installed and you feel so pleasant inside the very clean cool temple. Secondly, at around 7.00 pm or so some youngsters and young at heart do the bhajans and you have to be there to feel the 'heaven' in earth.

Welcome both of you to this board,

LK(g)

Welcome Tarun. welcome Shiva.
Good to see that you are interested in welfare of Chennai.

We have many army people here. I lead an army of volunteers which engages itself in helping people who are prepared to help themselves. I have many friends who lead similar armies in Chennai and in Mumbai.

I think we will do well together.
