Exclusive Msg Loop from GovindViews: 1114
May 23, 2005 4:20 amExclusive Msg Loop from Govind#

Govind Srinivasan
Hello WCFCians,

I thought I could keep a separate Msg Loop to keep communicating with the whole lot of fellow WCFCians and hence this separate thread.

May be this can be a kind of blog that I would like to maintain, but then it all depends on how this adds meaning to the group deliberations and actions. I will stop maintaining this, if I find this not useful.

I will continue to be active in other threads that come by.

Govind Srinivasan
Hello,

Due to a medical emergency in the family, I was not able to contribute to the programme we had planned at Perungudi. Considering that I had to rush to Bangalore on a business issue and be there for a couple of days last week, I couldn't keep to the Sunday commitment.

I posted some of you with the developments at the family front. I hope to be back with you with the normal routine asap.

Bear with me please, till then.

Govind Srinivasan
Unny Radhakrishnan is a member of WCFC. He is one of the few conscientious people I have met on the net, who are serious about connecting people with information and data for effecting social change - say, catalysts. http://www.ryze.com/view.php?who=Unny

We know how Soeb Fatehi http://www.ryze.com/view.php?who=soeb
has been contributing so much to push WCFC into action, though he is not a resident of Chennai.

Unny joins this virtual catalysts' group. The role of these virtual catalysts is very important for the growth of WCFC and we value them a lot.

Unny had posted a few weblinks recently in one of the threads, asking us to visit them. Here are these weblinks:

http://www.morarkango.com/biotechnology/biological_solutions.html
http://www.morarkango.com/
http://www.skollfoundation.org/

Pl have a look at these weblinks. Serious social change need not be an daunting task any more. This is the meaning that these weblinks give out.

Let us discuss when we meet.

May 30, 2005 2:47 pmUseful weblinks for discussion, deliberation and way forward#

Govind Srinivasan
Here are a few weblinks, which we can use as information and data feed in our discussions TO MAKE CHENNAI A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN.

http://www.indiatogether.org/php/search.php?words=Chennai&x=14&y=8

(If you have a little more time to spend on the net, browse the entire site and get a good lot of meaningful info.)

http://www.nilacharal.com/news/rajan/rajan91.html

(There is full article on WATER MANAGEMENT IN CHENNAI, which should be helpful in sharp discussions)

http://cpreec.org/04_articles/harvesting_rainwater/harvesting_rainwater.html

(Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) is an issue known to most of us. Here is an excellent write-up that can fill the gaps in our understanding on RWH).

http://www.indiaresource.org/issues/water/2003/waterprofiteers.html

(Water profiteering in Chennai - an old article, but still meaningful).

http://www.indiaresource.org/issues/water/2003/knowyourlandfill.html

(Know your landfill poisons - Find out for yourself what are the kind of dreadful poisons that get into landfills - a disaster that is in the offing due to short sightedness of the policy planners and the public).

http://www.discoverwild.org/pallikaranai.htm

(Here is a very detailed report on how the Pallikkaranai wetland is being lost due to reckless garbage dumping. This is a dated article, but I think it still has meaning).

http://www.hindu.com/pp/2005/04/02/stories/2005040200220300.htm

(Well, Pallikaranai wetland has rather worsened, as it appears from this latest news report - April 2005)

More later.

I have not come across a more appealing weblink than the one here, that gives the raw info on the source and scarcity of water from a global context.

One more such link on water -one of the biggest problem for India's future -in todays Msn news-special story

On chennai it says ""Chennai has been facing a water crisis for years. Some city areas have ceased to get municipal water supply. Most areas depend on wells and water tankers.""

But the real extent of the problem becomes clear when you read
""""Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya, despite receiving the highest rainfall in India, now finds it punishing to feed adequate water to its residents.
The story across the country barring a couple of states is the same: no water, just one or two hours of water supply or poor quality water. And the water table in all cities is rapidly going down """ !!.

Jun 06, 2005 8:50 amMy temporary non-availability to WCFC activities#

Govind Srinivasan
Hello Fellow WCFCians,

My father, in his ripe age of 80 years, is undergoing treatment in the ICU in Ramachandra Hospital, Porur, for multilple organ ailments. He was admitted more than a fortnight back and unfortunately, he is still in the ICU.

His condition remains very critical, though he has consciousness.

As my father requires almost non-stop care, I am not able to make myself available for WCFC activities. I hope I will be able to spring back to my original self shortly. Meanwhile, I request all of you to bear with me and continue to show your active participation in WCFC activities.

Well, we require a Co-ordinator who could reach out people and do an excellent job, to take care of the scheduling of programmes. Some of our WCFC activists are getting married soon and they are busy with their pre-marriage arrangement works. So, I am on the look out for a few committed WCFCians, who could hold the torch and run till I join running along with you all. I am sure that the WCFC activisits, who are getting married soon, will also spring back to action, a little time after settling down in married life.

Cheers!

Jul 05, 2005 2:48 pmI am back to work#

Govind Srinivasan
Hello WCFCians,

Ceremeonial duties arising out of my father's death are over. I am back to work. But the backlog is bewildering and I am trying to cope with it.

I do understand that there is an apparent lull in the WCFC activities. As I have been telling time and again, if we have about 300 members, we will have about 5-6 strong activists and a 15-20 floating number of volunteers. We are now a strong 150!

I can only renew my same old appeal once again. Pl bring at least 1 member a week to the WCFC. Think of the sheer number that we will have, if each of us bring 1 member every week. The bulk of the talent and the sincerity to put the talent to common cause is still remaining outside WCFC. Bring them inside.

I will spring back to my original self in a few weeks time.
