Web Designer/Programmer - SEO Reccomendation!Views: 810
Jun 21, 2005 5:49 pmWeb Designer/Programmer - SEO Reccomendation!#

Evan Margolin
Hello All -

Ya' think this would be easier in San Francisco, but I'm having trouble finding a good (simple) web designer (HTML/CSS) who can create clean, consistent designs (or redesigns), with proper SEO in mind. Bonus points for good copyrighting skills, I'd like to ask for recommendations!

The sites to be designed/redesigned are:
http://www.salsadancedvd.com
http://www.salsacrazy.com

Site to be designed with a simple database backend, and user input component, and adminstor control panel:
http://www.salsaguides.com

Any feedback or referrals, would be really helpful!

Thanks.
SC

Evan,

I can see why you are upset with whoever designed your sites.

First of all, I'm not sure why there are 3 different sites, when all you need is one site that the other two domain names redirect you to. The other problems I see are too many to note here.

There are numerous web development companies here on ryze. You might went to try the Home Page HTML Helper Network, the Technology Professionals network, the Internet & Web Development Network, The Joy Of Code Network, the Web Design Strategy Network, or the Web Pros And The Businesspeople Who Need Them Network. A posting in those networks will probably bring a flood of replies.

Also, my company does web design and programming. Our site is in the process of redesign. So, I hope you'll forgive its condition. We've been too busy with client sites to finish the redesign, but hope to within the next month.

SEO, copy, and code really all need to be in synch for a long-lasting high ranking on the search sites. People can get a good ranking with only one of the three, but will quickly drop if they don't have all three.

We would look forward to redoing your site the right way.

Evan,
I looked at your site. My thoughts;

You have a strong pagerank. You have alot of backlinks. That's good. I only did a preliminary Google search for the keywords, "salsa dancing" and you rank top 3.

The web copy from an SEO perspective isn't too bad. But the web copy from a persuasive perspective of getting the visitor to take action could use some work.

You definitely need someone to redesign the site though. You've got too many banner ads and other things that clutter up the site. Usability is important.

Question for you: What KW are you targeting? Are you trying to target "salsa dancing" or something like 'salsa san francisco" of which, there were over 150 queries done for one month.

If you want a copywriter that can do great work, I strongly suggest talking to Dina Giolotto. I've seen her portfolio and she's a great writer who knows how to articulate your USP and make you look good. I've talked to her on a few occasions and we've chit chat on SEO and stuff cause I did some side projects. She's had her work featured in Marketingsherpa and other major websites.

Tell her I sent you.

Thanks! I am interested in a redesign that would actually include a keyword search to find better performing keywords for my target audience (above 3-4k searches). Right now, I target words like "Salsa Dance", or even "Salsa", and we seem to do ok. I think with some real research, we can target keywords, and implement them in a copy strategy, that will singificicantly increase our current traffic.

Each site we have has a different focus, which is why we have so many. SalsaCrazy.com is an informational salsa dance site. SalsaDanceDVD.com sells salsa DVD's. DanceSF.com is a Salsa Dancing School which sells classes in the San Francisco Bay Area, and SalsaGuides is a user-input based worldwide Salsa and Travel guide, etc . . .

I'd love to talk to a great copywriter, especially one with comes with a reccomendation like yours. How do I get in contact with her? (I'm guess I'l search on ryze first). ;) I also need someone who can do basic web design, incorporating the copywriter's work into a working final product.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm new to Ryze, but have had my website, www.liveabroad.com, for almost six years. It was designed by www.yourmis.com, and their staff does an excellent job of seeing that it comes up high in the search engines.

I'm responsible for the copy, and am sometimes available for other projects.

Best of luck!

Evan,
I believe a good SEO can still take all 3 sites and combine into one site and have all your keyword phrases link well, IMHO. All 3 sites are *relevant* to each other, so I don't think there is a need to have 3 separate sites. But I'll leave that to the experts, if there are any :)

By the way, I assume you used Wordtracker or Overture to determine the frequency of your keyword phrases? Because you'll find that Salsa Dance is searched alot. But because you're selling information, then you may have to rely heavily on ads to make money from the site. But if the site that targets salsa lessons in SF, then you can make money from people signing up for your classes. Except the problem is that there are only 120 queries a month for those KWs. Of course, those 120 may be skewed and may only be 25 a month because of spam bots, and automated software that will skew the numbers higher. So who knows as to what the real validity of your search queries are.

Evan,

The first two sites are relatively good. SalsaCrazy needs help with the meta tags (why are there keywords stuck onto the end of the description?), and both need way more inbound links to them, and better keywords.

For web design firms, check http://www.craigslist.org (there is a San Francisco list), http://www.thefirmlist.com/, and http://www.websandiego.org/links .

I can recommend firms here in San Diego.

Please do recommend firms! I have used craigslist and big things like that, and I get TOO MANY responses. I'm looking for people's professional reccomendations based on my websites. If you have someone you like, feel free to tell me about them - that's what I'm looking for.

I've used all the big services - and I can't seem to locate a quality organization, that has the skills I need. This seems a little more personal - which is why I'm asking for help here.

Will you please consider a couple of our sites?

www.furniturecubicles.com. This new site is being search engine optimized currently. Where is the SEO?--contact me and I'll describe this.

www.webandnet.com. This site was briefly optimized for "email" and "email signatures". For various web marketing reasons, we are no longer optimizing the site.

Thank you,

Evan I didn't take a look at the sites b/c I don't have time right now, but if each site does/offers something different, then I feel you would be wise to keep them separate.

One thing I've learned over time is not to sell too many things on one site. It confuses people & you want to make it as easy as possible to get your surfers to do what you want them to do.

Of course you want to link to your other sites in your copy or put small banners somewhere promoting the DVDs, telling people they should trust you & buy your DVDs b/c you are an expert in your field & then link to the informational site & so on.

Good luck finding someone. I know how hard it can be.

I had someone & his attitude became disrespectful, so I got rid of him & am trying out someone new. If you want me to let you know how he works out, just PM me.

Thanks & TTYL

Michelle
P.S. If you find someone who's great in SEO, trustworthy, a hard worker & ethical, pls. PM me w/ their details.
