PDA vs. LaptopViews: 575

Garland,

More and more it seems like many of the things folks have used a laptop computer for can now be done via PDA. I was wondering if the showing of a multimedia slide presentation was among them? Please understand, I am not thinking about showing a slideshow even to an individual on a PDA. I am talking about using the PDA to connect up to a projector and show the slideshow on a regular projection screen. A PDA is much easier to carry than a laptop. It is also less expensive. I don't mind using a stylus to push buttons on my PDA to move from one slide to the next. Do you have an opinion with regard to using PDA's to show slideshow presentations? And, if you think it is indeed a good idea, are there any particular PDA's you would recommend using in that regard?

Hello Lamar,

I know some PDA's do have PowerPoint with them so you can create and edit slides.  But I don't think a PDA has the horsepower to do full animations, etc for a presentation.

I did come across a PDA sized full computer, called OQO at www.oqo.com.  This would definitely be powerful enough and has the benefit of being very small.  Sells for about $2,000, I believe.

Garland,

I am not an Apple IPOD user, but I just read that the newer IPOD's do multimedia - not just music. In addition, Bluetooth has wireless headphones that somehow enable you to control your slideshow presentation, hands-free. Do you know anything about this? Imagine being able to do a slideshow before an audience, being able to move across the stage and change the slides via your headset. Is that not amazing..and possibly practical as well?

Hi Lamar,

I'm not familiar with running presentations from a iPod. You would have to check out connections to your projector, etc.

I would go to a place that sells iPods and ask them about it and get them to demonstrate for you so you can see how well it works.
