Still walking around doing everything "but" what you intended ?Views: 538

LOL how many of you have gotten up from the computer or where ever thought how you'd just go get a pen. Got in the other room, noticed the dishes were there from breakfast, did those, then noticed the crumbs on the counter, cleaned those, smelled the fresh pot of coffee you made, thought that was a great idea, poured yourself a cup. Feeling quite accomplished doing the few little things to tidy up you gleefully go back to your computer.

Only to find .. what? You still don't have a pen :)

Since you know you do this, and we already talked about the "lists" as reminders which are great, very helpful etc.,

Try this... on your way in the room, say (whatever it is) pen, pen, pen, pen ... in your head as you go. Go "straight" to the pen, get it ... on your way back, "then" you can do those dishes but put the pen where you can see it. So you remember to grab it on your way back after you've wiped the crumbs off and grabbed a cup of coffee... you can even simply continue saying pen in your head as you do the other things.

Do give yourself that mental focus break by allowing yourself to sneak something else to do when you are stuck in a chair for a long time, otherwise you'll get fidgety and frustrated and soon ... just be fidgety and frustrated. Take a little break, let yourself breath a little and of course we always can break it down into segments so as not to be bored out of our skulls.

Make your outline one day, fill in some content the next, you'll have some of the things complete on the day where you feel great and it will be 1/2 done already.

Just a few things to share with you I thought you may all find helpful.

I'm not crazy! (She thought to herself...) I'm unique and unpredictable :)

It simply exists inside you.

I admire the way you articulate & readily share so many things on this board & also in the million $ mastermind.
After reading your post, I thought let me pull out an email fwd that i received sometime back & post it here. It truly reflects the way I feel, act & behave !

" Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to wash my car.
As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on
the hall table.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can under the table, and notice that the trash can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out
the trash first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my chequebook off the table, and see that there is only one check left.
My extra cheques are in my desk in the study, so I go to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.
I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the coke a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.
I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container
with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be
looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on
the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.
I splash some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on
the floor.
So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels
and wipe up the spill.
Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was
planning to do.
At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers aren't watered, there is still only one check in my chequebook, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.
Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember to whom it has been sent.
Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!"

After reading your post, I am saying 'wash, wash, wash,'... I have figured out what to do, ie, wash. I'll wash once I have figured out what to wash!:-))

Hey Nirmala :) wow, thank you so much for your kind words. You know? I still get all teary eyed and mushy when someone says this... but in a good way. So thank you...

Wash, wash, wash LOL :) Now that's funny!

You know, another thing that I noticed as well... I can go quite blank if I want to do an article sometimes. It's like my mind decides to go on vacation regardless of the fact that during the day I had a kajilion good ideas flowing freely through it. But sit down? And I have written many, and go to do one? Like "on purpose"? I'm done, fried, staring at the screen like... what the ...????

So, since my brain apparently has "stage fright" or "performance anxiety" lol ... I've changed that. When ever the mood "hits" me and I have an idea and I'm near a computer I RUN to the computer! TURN IT ON START TYPING FURIOUSLY AND VIOLA!! cool things come out... :)

We can't do that all the time but we "can" keep a blog and write down tips and thoughts and on a particularly clear day where my mind decides it feels like being fiesty, I go and filter through and use what I have.

I had to figure out what motivates me to do something.

Each on of you here? Is MORE than capable of setting a task and getting it done, otherwise your laundry would be in the barn touching the rafters, your grass overgrown, your legs resembling that of a rare ostrich with plumes of feathers sprouting out of your head :) LOL (I think I just sufficiently amused myself ...)

So... since we're all easily distracted... Tell me "what times have any of you guys have something that you needed to focus on and "what did you do, to do that"? In other words, my website for example. I was so lethargic about getting that done until I realized that the changes that I wanted to make hadn't been made, and thus I didn't make any.

So there I was thinking how horrid I am for not producing more things to add when in reality I was "stuck" more by the fact that what I had already sent to my friend hadn't been done yet.

So, I told him he needs to do it a.s.a.p because blank pages and getting those notices makes me feel that things are getting done, I feel motivated because I can now, with faith send changes and things to add and know that I "must" do this ...

So, what are you all about? How do you perform the best?

The more frustrated you get with yourself, the more difficult it will become to focus right? So work with it... although yes, sometimes it's annoying... :) and a bit frustrating...

we're what? Unique and unpredictable! Oh so not boring ... Shame on those clock watchers!!! (just kidding clock watchers... that's a skill I need a timer for or when I'm hungry I certainly know what time it is, I'm just making a little joke :) ...)

Again thank you for this joke Nirmala, I've been there as well LOL bouncin around like Tigger with Piglet watching me do everything and nothing inparticular.

p.s. in regards to making the outlines. Please for goodness sake, either print it out and put it in a folder or write a reminder for yourself that it exists LOL

I found something in my computer about a month ago entitled, like self confidence etc., and I open it I'm reading it ... and I'm thinking WOW this is REALLY good, wonder where I got it? LOL ...

Ready? :) It was mine...

Now this little talent I have, which is how my brain works is quite interesting, I can focus on the things that interest me and I do well. The thing is how can I make myself interested in what it is that I am doing so that I get it done?

I'd like to add here that it's an asset to my coaching practice as well ... apparently my brain likes to hold onto little bits and pieces of information, when I hear conflicting input, it perks up and says .. HEY! did you hear that? What does it resemble, what's this about, haven't we heard this before now what are we going to help this person do with this newfound thought? So really, for all the things that I used to be afraid I'd forget? According to my Dad who had a memory like an elephant (damn it LOL) it's cool to know that the things that matter, on a personal level are those things that I am able to focus on which says what about me?

I am able to focus, I just have to figure out what pushes me to perform or do what I need to do.

Delegation? Mastermind group? Accountability partner? Diary; lists; a loud blarring fog horn in the a.m.? :) A fire cracker ... up ... uhm... well uh ... my posterior ... I'm feeling a little silly today. I had yesterday off it was a mental health day for me, just took off and farted around doing nothing in particular. That was COOL! Try it! aw go on, try it...

Just food for thought :)

Sue T.

p.s. See ? You remembered the e-mail right? So that simply means you can remember other things... :) agh ha! I gotcha! :)
