Betty Lynch, My Country Kitchen
Hello!

My name is Betty Lynch. I have been in direct sales for 9 years and recently decided to start my own affiliate website and join in on the affiliate business. Apparently I didn't complete my research as this task has been extremely hard for me. Although I'm learning every day, the Internet (which I thought was fairly smart about) and advertising is eating my lunch. It seems like every day I get at least 10 emails asking me to advertise here and advertise there. I don't have the money to advertise in all of these places that I don't know how much traffic they are getting daily. So, I haven't done much advertising at all. Hoping to learn some tricks of the trade with this network.

Blessings,

Betty Lynch

Welcome Betty,

Yes, it is easy for the advertising costs to get out of hand on the Internet.  I track all my advertising and I find most of the new advertising I try is wasted.  By tracking this, I keep only the working ads each month and dump the rest.  So a small marketing budget goes a lot further.

I notice you list 3 different businesses in your signature line.  It is very difficult to develop, market and afford advertising for multiple businesses at once.  When I do my Internet marketing coaching, I make my clients choose JUST ONE to focus on.  You probably have the time, energy and budget to reach one target audience with one product line, so that is the best way to start.

What Internet marketing question can be brainstorm for you?

Thank you for the welcome!

Two of the companies I listed are direct sales businesses. The way these are advertised are through home parties and word of mouth of customers. My Affiliate Business, my Internet business, is the company that I plan to advertise. While I'm still working on the website and have not had an official launch, I will be specializing in helping those with direct sales skills and recommending motivational speakers/authors and items to help in direct sales businesses. I do have a tab that I will be adding items to help people start their own affiliate business.

How would you start marketing a new Internet business?

Hello Betty,

Well the first step is to pick one business to focus on...:)

Here are some additional steps to start and test your Internet marketing.

1.  Identify a narrow target market to start with - one that has a high demand for the product/service you are offering.

2.  Offer a product or service in demand to your chosen target audience.

3.  Set up a landing page offering one product to one target audience where they can buy right online.  You can test how well your landing page is converting by setting up a couple of landing pages with different wording and seeing which converts best.

4.  Put an advertising tracking system in place like 1ShoppingCart or Ultimate Affiliate Manager.

5.  Start advertising and marketing online, ensuring you are using the tracking system for each one.  Some techniques you can use include:

  • Online networking like Ryze
  • Online classified ads
  • Pay per click advertising through search engines
  • Advertising on other web sites that reach your target market
  • Advertising in newsletters that reach your target market
  • Free advertising exchanges like Instant Buzz (ask me for an invitation)
  • Setting up a program to reach "influencers" that reach your target market

6.  Evaluate each technique monthly and dump the non-performing advertising.  Expand what is working.

7.  Once you have one product and target market working well, you can expand to more.

Testing and tracking are critical to your success.  Otherwise, you will have no idea which of your marketing methods is working.
